Posted before in a "crimping" thread but you can't beat neat IMHO:

I've extended T&E before & soldered rather than crimped the staggered joints. Then atop the heatshrinking sleeved the whole lot with a bit of sheath from the next size T&E up..........and then heatshrunk over that. That comes out very neat.
