    Anybody else do this?

A thread started by jpjpjpjpjpjpjp - is that enough jp's - concerning marking of sockets etc got me thinking after Sidey said "unless it's domestic". In a domestic rewire, or partial rewire, I always mark cables with certain information at strategic points both to help me keep track of my own...

Maximum length of cables limited to 3m

Lets put all the numbers in a hat and see which comes out... Makes no sense to me, either. Meter tails, OK, we all know that one one; but generally???

If the bonding was good, they might not notice any loss of supply with a dropped neutral.

    Chase out or Cavity

Simple, I don't shove cable willy-nilly across the cavity. I always install some 20mm plastic conduit across the gap and stick my cable in that. The air-space around the cable helps limit the temperature variation of the conduit. Maybe you should ask your local BCO what he thinks of you just...

    Chase out or Cavity

I disagree with those who say that water traveling across can be disregarded. Wall ties (and insulation) are at a constant temperature within the cavity or have a very small temperature gradient across them. Therefore, condensation is unlikely to form on these items. Cables, however, have...

    rcd protection required?

With regard to the original question, Andy gave a perfectly accurate answer in post #3. It didn't really warrant any further discussion. Nor did he try to belittle the poster, he just answered the question. Could do with a few more like him, to be honest.

    rcd protection required?

I have to agree with Riggy on this. Not everyone is eloquent and able to describe a situation accurately. Sometimes it is better to ask a few searching questions, without any sarcasm, to try and assess the ability of the poster. Then any replies can be better directed to the actual question...
