    10mm Crimping Tool

vandaly, SORRY I think i may have hijacked your thread a little. Not deliberate, just was hoping to as I said increase the knowledge base. Paul :)

Brick Built Pond and Electrical Cabinet

trouble is frogs eat all the fish spawn so my late dad told me.

Do you go for extra skills that aren't electrical?

that's not an edge bander its a moulder aint it? ; -)))) Cant do smileys this time on Fri pm! Paul

Now that i won't argue with! Last heat shrink job I did was to save on a

Brick Built Pond and Electrical Cabinet

You've got Water Hawthorn in there, very simple but stunning plant IMHO. We have lost all of ours. Paul p.s. NOT a hint, I don't have enough time to look after our Koi pond at the mo!

    10mm Crimping Tool

Andy, I have rolls of this stuff it is amazing! However, I'm still not convinced about the dielectric strength (the Welsh sparky) of heat shring, say thickness 0.5 mm even at the strength of that tape it would not take much to reduse the insulation proerties at a nick. Say 33MV/m that equates...

    10mm Crimping Tool

Andy, That's self amalgamating tape, not heat shrink when it gets to my end. Messed up link? Paul

    10mm Crimping Tool

No don't do much of that! More often soldering terminals or heat shrinking. I do mostly maintenance, repairs & fault finding! The rest we won't go into. Paul

    Things keep appearing.

    O) Ok, how do we know how many scoobs we have? ROTFWL

    10mm Crimping Tool

The common heat shrink is either 2 or 3 times reduction. Some have "glue" in some dont. I have not regularly used the "glue" type. Not sure what you mean about the outer adhesive stuff? I carry a gas soldering iron in my box which gets me away most of the time. However, a hot air paint...

    10mm Crimping Tool

Andy, I'm not exactly aware of the specs. However, I have experienced this situation. What is the dielectric strength, typically quoted in kV/mm IIRC? Paul p.s. not picking or owt, just trying to further the knowledge base. Also, I'm rubbish with forum software so i struggle with the...

    10mm Crimping Tool

Andy, Where possible I would always stagger, as i have seen heat shrink fail as its dielectric strength is not as high as the insulation on the cores. Paul

There is also marconite or bentonite. Try here: http://www.furse.com/elp/pdf/scagents.pdf

    CPC in steel conduit

redman, It is still allowed to use the stell conduit as a cpc. HOWEVER, Zeespark is correct, a seperate earth is always better! Some of the steel conduit i've seen as cpc would make your hair stand on end. Also as per my other conduit post, who these days uses or even has a high current...

    conduit coupler?

Dave, Just a Q, i guess you used a low current low resistance ohm meter, like a multi function etc.? Do you think that the connections would have held up under the high current test which seems to have lost favour these days? BTW does anyone have a high current earth tester?

    conduit coupler?

M107, I carry these on my van, don't ask! My comment relates to somewhere in the seriously din and dark pastseeing a piece of conduit formed like that on the end without the thread in it?

    Experience or Qualifications?

Doubtful that under current legislation you could legally employ person A and allow him to work for you as a competent person. Due to the accetped definition of competence. Paul

    Help needed!!

My experience is different, however it is normally down to poor applications engineering of the wiring solutions. IMHO crimps & solid conductors do not go. There is insufficient deformation of the conductor to get adequate contact in the bore of the crimp. Screwed connectors are not much...
