Just a bit of advice really guys. I've been asked to qoute on a smoke alarm system for 3 flats, one ground floor, one 1st floor and one on the second floor. Now basically theyv'e asked for them in all flats plus on the communal stairwell also. I'm thinking an LD3 grade D system with optical...

Testing Ze for a new consumer unit in a garage

Ze should be always measured at ORIGIN and it is what it says on the tin Ze (external) as Andy has said. Any other measurement should be either Zs@ board or Zdb

    What code would you give

to the OP I would code it a Code 2 - Requires Improvement. As for the cpc as switched live, I would lock off the circuit personally and if that was unacceptable I would have my client sign one of my NAPIT "Dangerous Situation Report" forms and then probably still lock it off, LOL.

    plastering

I can plaster too, wouldn't say good enough to call myself a plasterer but I could plaster in a chase so that it was neat and tidy.

What's everyones hobbies when they're not working at weekends etc?

For me, I used to be into my Trackdays. Had a caged out 205Mi16 track car which I loved then had a Mitsubishi Evo9 which I tracked too. Awesome days out but at the moment I don't have a toy to feed my adrenaline rush as ploughed a load of capital into my business. What about you lot? What...

    2330 level 3 302 exams

LOL, my BRB is full of quick reference notes at the back and highlighted texts and even the index page is highlighted too for me. Glad I don't need to use it for exams anymore or i'd be stuffed!! Big green book is due out in July though iirc?

Today`s call out to an "impossible" scenario.

mmmm, Neutral to earth fault on a TNC-S with no RCD protection present, non split load board? funny one that, i'd be baffled for a while to be honest.

    pir on indutrial advise

PI insurance is a MUST when doing PIR's, it covers you for the work you do but most importantly for the professional advice you give relating to the work or any improvements you recommend whilst performing the inspection etc.

    Odd Jobbing

there is actually an exam for building regulations in general but it doesn't just apply to Part P, it applies to ALL of them......I know because i've done it! Its the EAL "Applicable Building Regulations for Domestic Electrical Installation" Certificate.

    pir on indutrial advise

Being part of a scheme has nothing to do with being able to do a PIR or any work for that matter within the Industrial sector as they are prodominantly Part P scheme's which relate to Domestic building regulations. If you are a Full Scope NAPIT member or an AC for NIC then this will show you...

    A Zs observation for all

It's another one of those grey areas where consistency again fails miserably!! Take for example a 32A BS:EN 60898 type B MCB Easycert program automatically puts in the value of 1.44 ohms which is what the BRB states. The onsite guides value is 1.16 ohms corrected (80% rule of thumb) NAPIT...

    Enquiry of Ze from DNO.......useless!!

understand what your saying 100% but as the whole installation was metallic trunking and SWA I didn't know 100% that the installation wouldn't provide any parallel paths as it came into the cellar boiler room also so maybe the trunking could have provided a parallel path where it breached ground...

    Enquiry of Ze from DNO.......useless!!

ha ha ha, very funny. As for a UPS, I dunno why they hadn't one but I was instructed that the servers couldn't be turned off as it was something to do with rebooting and data loss. I did mention to the caretaker about what happens in a power cut and he said that they had to call in an IT...

    Enquiry of Ze from DNO.......useless!!

I think you's fail to see the point. I did do an RA or I wouldn't have got the contract without it. As it was a school, the whole building is always locked down at every entrance and because we were testing all over the school then we also had the deadlocks on the doors so nobody could get...

    Enquiry of Ze from DNO.......useless!!

So tell me how you get your measured Ze readings on the tests you do then because without actually having to have the instalation energised how can you do it? You need a connection to LINE, NEUTRAL and EARTH at the head. The reason I contacted DNO is because I didn't want to disconnect it but...

    Enquiry of Ze from DNO.......useless!!

I know exactly what your saying guys 100% The server that was running wasn't running any PC's as the school was closed for the holidays, it was just left on and all that was running was it's internal fans. There was some sort of earth bonding if you class the pathetic SWA bonding to the water...
