Clean earth for top end HiFi

I'm have a big interest in hifi and at one time could swear I could hear a difference if I plugged the amps into a ring as opposed to a spur. Then I woke up, returned to the real world and common sense prevailed. Now the hifi runs happily off the downstairs ring along with the fridge, freezer...

    Major flourescent problem

I've since spoken again to the customer and the place is NOT 24 hours so we're looking at less usage. I would be seriously irritated if, after 3 years, half of my fittings started going pop. Surely these fittings are designed to run for, let's say, 10 hours a day and that a reasonable lifespan...

    Major flourescent problem

Thanks as always for the info/opinions as well as the usual entertainment value thrown in for free. Will be breaking the bad news to the customer today. hopefully it will be an ongoing thing as the rest of them gradually pop off.

    Major flourescent problem

No idea what the average lifespan is but I guess they've exceeded it from the amount that have gone. Don't look too difficult to replace. 15 mins per fitting tops?. Would you charge per unit or by time?

    Major flourescent problem

I'm guessing it's a 24 hour operation. Have had some of the fittings de-energised, swapped tubes etc, but no effect.

    Major flourescent problem

Been to have a look at a local call centre where the flourescent fittings are playing up. Place was totally refurbished 3 years ago. Around 100 recessed 4x18w T8 HF fittings with 2 ballasts per fitting. At a rough count I found 200 tubes unlit which would account for 25 percent of the entire...

    Rewiring necessary?

I've just had the exact same situation with a friend who buys to let. He looked at (and eventually bought) a property which he was advised to have the wiring checked. From his description (backed up with photos)of toggle switches on wooden blocks, metal fuse boxes with throw switches, rubber and...

    Electricity Korean style

Just going through the pictures on my phone and found these, taken when I was building Trade show stands in Korea last year. This is the distribution box for our stand and yes, it was live. Interesting combination of colours and a few exposed terminals. The following two are taken in my hotel...

Someone checked one of my jobs this week. Interesting.

Would be interesting to know their reasoning behind disallowing the RCDs on storage heaters. Do they class them as different to other current using devices. Further down the line what if someone was to remove the storage heaters and replace the DP switches sockets? OK, so that's speculative but...

    Cu Change and Partial Rewire

Your last 2 words just about sum it up! I bet the 'Black Museum' on the plumber forum isn't anywhere near as interesting as ours!

    Bathroom fitters

Getting it through to the customer that they've been shafted always seems the trickiest task in these cases. Love the FCU behind the towel rail. Can't get over that one:slap
