    Helping to stop the cowboys

I never said it was a GOOD thing that they are not fitting meters with isolators any more. But I can see their idea behind it as you should call them out to pull the main fuse and then they can check if you are a competent person or not. It might stop some cowboys or diyers.

    Helping to stop the cowboys

At a job today and had EDF out to change a meter, upgrade their tails and connect an new CU. He fitted a digital meter and I noticed there was no isolating switch. He told me they are longer fitting them in an effort to " stop the cowboys" He also asked for my elecsa reg. He told me that they...

    Generator

I would pull out the tails and conect it straight into the cu as I am asuming the main fuse has been removed. I would also ad an earth conection to the frame of the generator.

    CU Move

Started the job today and found the wall where I need to mount the CU is an old lath and plaster partition so no chasing. It is open at the top and is built of the timber floor at the bottom so can be accessed from the cellar. I am now thinking of using 2" X 2" trunking inside the partition and...

    CU Move

I can see using a metal flush mounted cu as the gland will mount to that but I still do not see how to terminate the meter end. Also I will have to double insulate the cables after the glands. Last time I did this I had to strip the secondary insulation from some left over meter tails.

    competant persons

As I understand it to get the work signed of by LABC the need to inspect at first fix and second fix and then they get a CP to test it.

    CU Move

I do not have a choice as this house is to be used for multiple ocupancy and the owner wants the cellar closed to residents but the cu accessable to all. If I move it to the party wall then the tails will go over 3 meter's and need the switched fuse which then is in the cellar with no access...

    CU Move

I am surprised that no one has even mentioned my idea about using steel conduit with normal tails inside and conected to earth.

    CU Move

I understand your idea but it would not leave enough wall behind it and imo chasing this out I would be bound to break through into the next room. Tails should be OK for length as the meter is directly below the wall.

    CU Move

I have been asked to move a cu from the cellar to by the front door and this would involve running the tails up an inside wall. The wall is a 4" brick wall and will have to be chased. The only way I see of doing this is to use swa cable but I do not see how to terminate it at either end. Cu end...

    Does my price look OK

Everything is new apart from a few kitchen socket and most of the lighting circut. If it was me I would change the rest but it is for a landlord and as the wiring is not so bad he wants to save a few pounds.

    Does my price look OK

    Does my price look OK

I am expecting it to take me about eight days working alone but might get some in to help with the chasing. A lot of the money is the materials.

    Does my price look OK

Been finding it dificult to find work lateley and am now starting to doubt my prices. What do you think about this quote? To supplying and installing 5 2.55kw night storage heaters to independently work of economy 7 . To supplying and installing New consumer unit to be located by front door...

Do you have to do loop tests on all circuits

This was more where I was going by starting this thread. These days with H&S being the way it is. You are up a pair of steps trying to hold two probes in place on to live terminals with one hand and pushing the test button with the other. :Pray

Do you have to do loop tests on all circuits

Yes that was what I was asking. It was more about Health and safety as I thought the recomendations these days was just to test sockets and calc everything else. I am just playing catchup after being out of the business for the last 15 years.

Do you have to do loop tests on all circuits

On the 17th edition forms it says maximum measured Zs yet I have read that it is better to find this buy calculation. Also testing smoke alarm, cooker and lighting circuits seems to me to be to dangerious for H&S.

removal of c/u front to inspect before testing

You would need the cover off to do a PFC test.
