Hello all.

Been asked to change C.U. which is supplied by D.P. isolater and about 5 mtrs of 16mm2 tails going under garage floor and up internal wall double garage in plastic conduit to old C.U.

My query is do i need some kind of protection for the tails with them been more than 3 mtrs.

Cheers.

Putting a switchfuse would be the right thing to do but it's gonna add $ onto your price and achieve no discrimination with the 60a mainfuse. I'd prob use the existing tails if it's A 60a mainfuse. Tin hat on tho. Wait to see what others say.

If they are existing and you are not changing them, you are under no obligation to alter that part of the installation. Unless the customer has asked you to do the work and is willing to pay you. 60A over 16mm tails for 5m is not going to present any significant hazard or danger in my opinion.

the seal fairy! LOL

When you say under the garage floor too, do you mean they've been sunk under the concrete? If so I'd put a note on your cert after you've fitted the CU as to the limitation of whether the tails have been buried in a conduit to protect them against damage and to an unknown depth. I'd also be tempted to mark the position of the tails as they enter the floor and exit the floor . It will just remove any future liability to yourself in the eventuality if anything were to happen.

Funny enough it says on the outside of fuse holder, seals still in place.

British gas fitted isolater I can only assume he made sure it was a 60a fuse when he re-sealed it.

Andy, Customer sorted isolater, he said he contacted NEDL and they said contact British Gas who he pays the bill to, they have there own team who do ther own customers

isolaters. Northeast area.

Surely they would make sure it had a 60a fuse in it before re-fitting and re-sealing with it stating that size on the outside.
