hi everyone new to this site.

before xmas i sat my 203 exam and failed got the re sit next monday and im not confindent.

any help would be apprecaited. (pleeeease:()

Have you seen the 203 papers on here Paul?

The 203 is the Hardest exam of the lot. If it's any consolation, I too failed the 203 the first time around.

I failed to do any revision for that, because I was spending too much time sorting this forum out. :_|

Good Luck In your re-sit.

right chaps i have now failed the exam 3 times and my time is running out.

im failing on the electrical principles, theory and operatiuon part. any help please

i remember theses question so will u answer them for me aswell thanks.

Q.an electrical relay which causes contacts to open or close is.?

Q.an overcurrent protective decice is one which relies for its operation on?

Q. purpose of a circuit breaker in a circuit is to provise protection against?

Q.earth fault current will flow in a 3 phase installaition if?

Q.which type of protective device can discrimate between short duration overlaods and high current ppath?

A. rcd

B.type b mcb

c. rewirable fuse

d. can not remember

also.

q.whats is the ration of standing ladders?

1/4

1/5

q. A transformer has a primary winding with 1100 turns and 380 secondary turns. It is connected to a 230v supply. What will the secondary voltage be?

how do you work this out?

and questions on power factor would help

Dont understand this?

Q.an overcurrent protective decice is one which relies for its operation on?

And again...

Q. purpose of a circuit breaker in a circuit is to provise protection against?

This is very basic... overload and short circuit....

Q.earth fault current will flow in a 3 phase installaition if?

there is a low enough resistance?

Q.which type of protective device can discrimate between short duration overlaods and high current ppath?

A. rcd -this does not have any overload protection

B.type b mcb this will trip fairly quick on overload

c. rewirable fuse[takes longer to melt than a type B would trip

d. can not remembermaybe not this answer then
my red

Please word your posts better Andyc.

This is a help forum where people can ask questions no matter how basic they appear to anyone else.

"Ratio" for putting ladders up 1:4 1/4

e.g.

If the top is 4m up a wall the bottom should be 1m out from the wall.

Transformers (rob ots in disguise oooppps sorry:pBlushing)

primary windings / seconday windings = primary voltage / secondary voltage

i.e.

1100/380 = 230/secondary voltage

2.894 = 230/sec'volt

sec'volts = 230/2.894 = 79.47volts.

:)

Q.an electrical relay which causes contacts to open or close is.?

could they be getting at a contactor???

i.e. relay normally DC operated

Q.an overcurrent protective decice is one which relies for its operation on?

low resitance fault path, e.g. Earth loop impedance readinmgs???

Q. purpose of a circuit breaker in a circuit is to provise protection against?

Overload currents melting the circuit cables?

Q.earth fault current will flow in a 3 phase installaition if?

either one of the phases is in contact with earth??

Q.which type of protective device can discrimate between short duration overlaods and high current ppath?

A. rcd

B.type b mcb

c. rewirable fuse

d. can not remember
a-RCD the red herring option

I guess they mean c the rewireable. short duration overload?

as b-MCB would trip probably

or it could be d????? :^O :)

Q.which type of protective device can discrimate between short duration overlaods and high current ppath?

A. rcd

B.type b mcb

c. rewirable fuse

d. can not remember

the answer is B, a MCB can discriminate between short duration overload (inrush of current), and overload if correctly rated.

sure? i would imagine the 'short duration overload' in the question is something like a motor. in which case, a fuse would hold up better than a type B, which could trip before motor has got to speed

ah didnt read the type B part there. should read things better many apologies

a rewireable fuse has no inrush current rating and would not discriminate, unlike a Mrated BS88, or a type c or type d breaker

there is no correct answer here. I feel this maybe a question that has not been copied on to this forum correctly???? or is that just me

i agree D, although i sont know what D is it cant be the others
