I have just heard an ugly rumour that the 8 foot

tube is being phased out and the next one to go

will be the 6 foot.

Apparently the replacement will be a twin 5 foot

fluorescent fitting working at a higher frequency.

The reasons, I have been told, are to make the

luminaire type more efficient, with more lumens

per watt.

Any comments?

Old news bud. Given up fretting about such rubbish, just tell customers and replace fittings whilst agreeing with them that government/europe/environmentalist are mad.

Riggy; I quite agree with you.

I am working on the provision of

a solution for the long term &

I already have my ideas. I have

already told them that they have

to get this right first time.

Yes, it is all horse trading in

the corridors of Brussels but it

is poor sods like us that have to

lead and advise.

old news. 8ft tubes have been hard to get hold of for a few years now just like a 100w BC lamp), although i do still have some 8ft tubes left which come in useful when replacing the fitting isnt always practical

I made a fair bit out of flogging T12s to people who couldnt get hold of them anymore! Sadly had no 8 footers they are worth a fortune!

8 ft Florries are hardly inefficiant are they.

If "they" really wanted people to use energy efficient lighting, the first thing on the hit list should be the halogen GU10 and MR16 type lighting.

Users of the (now almost gone) 100W BC lamp probably had just 1 lamp in one pendant fitting for the whole room. I wonder how many have now fitted "fancy" fittings with four 35W or even 50W GU10's when they found a 60W BC lamp was not bright enough?
