hi all

i've got my annual elecsa assessment due soon and i've got a rewire which i've first fixed so hopefully will be using this to show, problem is i need to get a feed to a brick out house. its ony 3m from from house and wondered if i take 6mm 3core swa from consumer into a 2 way cu in outhouse with just a main switch as rcd will be on house supply. normally i would TT this but as its not even 3m from house and is decking all around it, would the assessor pull me up on this as you not suppose to export the earth, outhouse is only to have a couple of sockets and 1 light.

any you guys done this or ways round it.

1/ Why 6mm 3core SWA for a couple of sockets & lights?

2/ Why normally TT?

3/ I cannot think of a reg that says you Cannot export an earth?

As Sellers said......

What house earthing arrangement..

also

whats in the outhouse?

ANY extraneous conductive parts?

Hows the cable getting to the outhouse?

underground?

perimeter structure?

via a fixed overhead support?

etc..

etc..

need more details here methinks:) ;)

6mm is OTT . As the Vet says, 2.5 mm would be fine , fit a switched spur with a 3 amp fuse for the light. Presume you have RCD in house.

3 core SWA or conduit to outhouse.

its a tns system, outhouse is only 6x8, there is a brick garden wall from house that joins the two so wall clip it to the wall, 6mm does seem to be over the top and 2.5mm would more than enough, theres no extraneous conductive parts, i've TT garages before that have been at the bottom of gardens but i've read threads on here before about this exporting the earth and why you should'nt?

There is a problem with exporting earths from PME ( TNCS) systems. Specs is the worlds leading expert on it, Ive forgotten again . Forgetting a lot lately, could always look it up I suppose.

..... erm.. Dreek...Duke... What the hell is it?...

Export away to your hearts content IMHO! ;)

ALSO?

what happens when Mr homeowner plugs his extension lead in to the kitchen sockets....

Exporting all the earths around the place!

The are only some concerns with PME (TNCS)

AND especially outbuildings with extraneous parts wot need bonding...

which in my experience 70% or 80% of your average outbuilding have sod all of extraneous bits!

:) ;)

its only TNCS you have to take care with exporting or TTing

I would not worry to much, I think most assessors do not know about exporting earths anyway its a dno thing. Personally I TT outbuildings but thats what I do you should have no problems. I have my assessment next week to.

...if in any doubt, why not give elecsa's technical line a call and see what their view is?

I've spoken to them a couple of times and they're always helpfull... shows a willingness to check stuff too.

This was a q for my assessment earlier in the year .. the tech guys at elecsa had no problem with exporting an earth ,,

hi eeb1933

i did the same installation for assessment with Elecsa. It was a TNS supply. I used 4mm 3core SWA. I took the earth from the main board and there was no problems. All i will say is if you use 1 of the cores as earth make sure the armour is earthed.
