I was in the Blackpool store and its massive so while the missus was going round I had a coffee in the cafe. On the table was a card - Tesco Tyres... What next? is there no end to their greed?

In Holyhead a store opened in 1999. Small area 12000 people struggling town centre but a market and the essentials but still a town centre. Oh yes and there was a petrol station - a 24 hour one.

Tesco decided they wanted a petrol station and opened one opposite and undercut them til they went out of business. So now Tesco have the only petrol station on the island and they are not 24 hours.

Town centre is now reduced to charity shops, pubs, bookies and Boots oh and a couple of opticians. No market anymore. Now Tescos are in the process of doubling the size of the store - they will also be doing:

Opticians

Electrical goods

And the catalogue home delivery anti Argos set up as well

Now Tesco sparkies? unbelievable. We should boycott them

The thing is they know how to make shopping in Tesco a pleasurable experience and spend millions working out the psychological side of things. We avoid it when in Holyhead - they now have a Morrisons too - the recent expansion is a reaction to having a bit of healthy competition if you ask me. The fact that they have the only petrol station means you have to do an 8 mile ropund trip off the island to go to the nearest other garage.

I do occasionally use Tesco. Should you ever find a complete basket of shopping thrown/abandoned in the self service checkout area then it will more than likely be mine. I have no patience, when I need a sandwich I NEED a sandwich. Sorry, bad day. :coat

Thing is Kerch that tesco is massive like a whole city you can get lost in there. I hate it. Then as you say there is hardly anyone on the tills. I hate the self service ones they always play up.

There's another opening not 5 minutes from you I believe!...makes a change from Charity shops. Very poor selection of food in Charity shops, I find. Unless you go in the Staff room and raid the fridge...frowned upon really :coat

Im ashamed to say I now work in my local store - I hate it - I have never sucked corporate d*ck in my life but the fact is that Tescos are the ONLY people employing round here and my wife and daughter have to eat. If it werent for them i wouldnt be there. Trust me, the rate of pay is sh*t

Sprocket - NO ONE can blame you for working for Tesco's to help feed your family. I have worked on their distribution side a few times, it leaves A LOT to be desired.

Well here in Newbury area we have 4 yes 4 Tescos

1 super store

1 (what the locals call a ) midi store

2 Tesco express stores

On top of that theres other super markets

1 somerfield super store

1 somerfield normal size store

1 sainsburys super store

1 co-ops

No wonder we dont have the one man band Butcher Baker Candle stick maker shops any more, even the localy grown fruit/vegs shop closed down last year because he was upfront & said he had been forced out of business because of the price war between Tesco & Sainsbury's at the time.

We do however have a very good fish monger, who goes to Cornwall early doors every other morning for fresh produce....but alas he is struggling with the cost of fuel.
