^^ :slap

when we built the race strokers for the first start up we used to tow them down the road behind the van!!!!!

got the oil moving and compression built up and started a lot easier!

it wouldnt be a fuel filter blockage would it :hmm
says its getting fuel,

I did think about whether or not it was a vaccum fuel tap or not.

sorry steps just trying to help ill crawl back under me rock.

can easily tow it about, but dont see how that would help?

no, take fuel pipe off carb and it flows out

and the carb is deffo nice and clean?

have you checked float heights, jets, air pilot/screw, emulsion tube etc,

no need, all help required, its still not working yet.!

gets the compression up and cos the engine is turning over so fast you can even start bikes with holed/cracked pistons like this sometimes, :Blushing

the carb is clean and looks like everything is working as it should, but then its not something i know much about

its auto, dont think it would turn the engine?

all the ickle screws on the carb, screw them in and count the turns,

then screw them right out and check they are clean and free flowing down the holes,

screw them back in then out to the original position, usually about 1&1/2 turns or something is a base setting.

is it a slide carb or a butteryfly? ie, does the throttle body slide out of the venturi, or simply turn inside it.

slide carb, open throttle and it lifts out the way

going to have another go at it tomorrow if i have time

it wouldnt,

thats a relief, im not loosing the plot after all!

I dont think its out to do with the carb as he has used easy start so he should have at least had it firing. hopefully he had the fuel turned off cos if it is flooding it still will not start. Turn the fuel off and place a petrol soaked rag at the air filter intake. Is it a good clean spark is it consistent.

If all is ok i would say prob is piston rings. Take the barrel off and take a look, but get a replacement gasket at least before you do.

The very first bike repair i did many moons ago was to re ring my DT125. Happy Days.

The only other thing i can think of is the disc valve keyway has chewed up and you aint getting charge when you should. Unless its a reed valve and a petal has cracked broken.

Other than that i guess whip the head off and look for ring damage

probably end up taking it to someone who knows what there doing with these... really dont want to take it apart unless i know thats definately the problem

Andy,

Pop the carb off the barrel, the reed valve assembly will be between the carb and barrel if it has one, not sure what type of engine it is, if it's a disc valve then there will be an easily removed cover to see the condition of the disc.

Bike engines are basic mate, they really are!

all bike engines?

Norton rotary? ;)

Yup!

All mass production engines, including rotary engines mate, are basic machines, they have to be they are either put together by machines or unskilled workers so they have to be basic!

the folklore says that when they came fairly recently to replicate the RC166 engines, they xrayed an original and struggled even with modern machining tools to fabricate its crankcases and thier tiny filigree oilways

bet the valvetrain was a larf too :)
