Hi folks, got back from a long long day, quick question I popped to look at a job today today water was bonded by CU, gas was on the other side of the house outside, couldn't see a bond on it. Get my r2 lead out and reading is 0.03ohms on the incomming gas pipe.

So do I need to locate the bond, or even install my own, with this value being so low?

To add, I am there to install a spur for new boiler position

IMO, if I cant see the bond and disconnect to verify it is continuous I state this on my PIR.

BTW, IIRC gas should be bonded within 600mm or where it ENTERS the property, other than that put in the notes where it is bonded,

the within 600mm from the meter is a gas reg and doesnt concern you, its the gasmans problem if he wants to put one there.

You say you cannot see the bond at the meter end, but is it there at the CU end (you don't specify this)?

If it is and this is what you tested to, then I'd say you've proved the bonding.

If there is no cable at the cu end, then I'd buy into the parallel paths suggestion (could be getting cont via the water).

if the cu and the meter are at opposite ends of the property is there an obvious route between the two ???

if there isnt i would look at the boiler for the bonding...

found this a few times.

Not un-common I had same situation yesteday in a small industrial unit - bond to steel work and water not visible. Tested for it all around building and got 0.03 ohms through coated steel and painted pipes. Have marked PIR appropiately and deemed bonding to be perfectly adequate for purpose.

We work for a housing association and 99% of their stuff has been bonded under the floor rather than take it outside to the gas meter.

Gas men are not happy they cant see it for their checks.
