What make of board was that lost it?

was it a ready fully equipped job-lot price with preset MCB ratings

or could you pick & choose your MCBs?

?:|

Anyway, where did you get the CU. Can't believe it was that cheap!

Always interested to know how these boards will last . Mind you they have to be up to b S E N and as soon has they prove their reliability up goes the cost of them . They look a tidy board though , was it easy to work with ? :D

CONCUR!! ;) and I would write in the last inspection date "Unknown"

and Recommended next inspection date "A.S.A.P"
i was about to say that^

really was ohms

yes it was fine.

i was dubious too. found the terminals substantial and really made effort to go that extra tight to see if they were upto the job. and imo was fine.

good internal flexi busbar all crimped and heatshrunk etc

impressed for the dosh

dig away ROTFWL ;)

Not wishing to be rude but IMHO you have to pick & choose your CU brand dependent upon the client you are working for...

e.g.

Got a little job waiting to stick a new CU in a flat that is going to be rented back out..

old tenant left.. bit of remedial work to do!

currently 3 x CUs!!! 1x 4way 1x2way 1x 1way

gong to stick in a cheepo 8way dual RCD jobbie..

no point paying top whack for a good brand! landlord don't want it & it wont be carrying much load!

whereas if it were a larger property with a "more wealthy client" got to go for something a bit for "expensive" or customer thinks you are short changing them!!!!

thats standard

look at the wall paper Pray

OK.

I`m not getting into the debate about inspection. I insist on testing EVERY circuit (properly) before a board replacement; although I know some of you don`t.

ECA best practice guide refers (link posted recently. I think......)

Would it pass? Not a hope in hell, IMO

Apart from the PIR sticker, and the tails.......

Are the neutrals / earths in the same order as the MCB`s? NOPE!

Are the main bonding conductors `durable` labelled? NOPE!

What about the EC? NO!

If you don`t test any of the outgoing circuits, how do you know you didn`t re-energise a piece of cable which is cut off under the floor? Or that the ring isn`t actually a ring to the first socket, and a radial around the rest of the house?

Remember - You are responsible for a circuit you energise. If you don`t test it ("well, it was connected before. How was I to know?") Just won`t work as a defence.

Other than that, it doesn`t look bad mate.

KME

yeah points we know about and already mentioned by me before it was pointed out: earths and neutrals.

are you saying labels for main bonds needed at CU end? i've never seen that done. only on industrial/comm

only circuits that were energised previously would be re energised

yes not good practice but installation was not left any worse than found (bottom of the rung i know)

thumbsup smilie

Well, you wouldn`t label the main bonding conductor (gas) next to the gas meter, would you? KME
isn't the regulation meaning the metal stamped label that is attached to the clamp?

reg?

514.13.1 (iii) ?

label at: met where seperate from main switchgear ?

Getting back to the CU - its looks identical to Castlec/Niglon CUs which I have been using on and off for several years with no real problems. Not as nice as more expensive stuff, but components seem reliable enough.

quite surprised no comment about pic 1re: something missing
There are only Elecven Curtain pole rings and there are supposed to be Twelve.

Therefore, there is one missing. :D

Depends on the board, but usually something along the lines of...
  • Remove CU from box
  • Remove pan
  • Fit base to wall and dress cables in in logical manner
  • Strip all cables
  • Terminate earths
  • Terminate neutrals
  • Fit pan and tails
  • Fit MCB's
  • Terminate phase cables
  • Power up
no testing in that list lurch:x
