Go down the small claims route - the costs you incur are added to their debt.

Remember the fees are based on the debt owed.

go with small claims. the fee is added to the total owed, so if she doesnt pay in full including the fee, then you can take it to court and she will end up with a CCJ, along with still having to pay

Like I say, try different debt collectors. I found one who only wanted a £25 fee from me to get it going and the rest of their fees would be recovered from the customer.

Just an update to this, I did as suggested by several on this thread and used the Small Claims Court. She paid up fairly promptly, with a letter of apology that stated she was going to pay all along, a likely story.

Many thanks for the advisors on here, I'm converted. I shall definitely use it again if I have to.
