Hi!

Where do I find the different codes for departures from 7671? e.g Wiring that is the old colours (Red/Yellow/Blue) is code 4 - not dangerous etc.

Also, I changed a consumer unit for a customer and the only things Ive picked up on the test is that its the old colours as mentioned above, no red/brown sleeving on switch wires and no grommets in back boxes.

Is the sleeving and grommets issue something that has to be rectified before issuing an EIC?

Thanks

Hi

What would the reference method be for a circuit that runs under a floor upstairs (through and along joists etc) then plastered in the wall in steel capping down to a switch/skt etc?

And would it be the same for a circuit in a loft, say placed on top of thermal insulation before dropping down to a switch?

Basically your average domestic installation.

Cant find a straight answer in the BS7671!

Thanks

I have merged these two threads as they are similar type questions. Is this for a college course? codes 1,2,3,4 have been obsolete since Jan 2012 and they are only used when reporting PIR's on an EICR. They are not used as departures on an EIC.

Read Appendix 4 in BS7671. All the reference methods are

in there, including the one for conductors laid on insulation.

You need to look at the methods, decide which is worst,

and rate the conductor on the worst case using tables 4D1

and following.

Then to be certain, carry out the volt drop calculation and

determine if the volt drop does not exceed the stated values

of either 3 or 5%.
