Dave why do you mention NICEIC, why not mention others, it seems everyone always mentions NICEIC when taking a pop at schemes.
I wasn't having a pop at scheme providers. I was just referring to the fact that the NICEIC take unauthorised use of their log very seriously and do fine people for that sometimes quite a lot. Even to the point that unauthorised use of their logo appears to be a bigger crime and easier to prosecute than doing dodgy work. So if he had by chance used their logo that would be an easy way to "punish" him for the shoddy work.

I'm not sure if the other scheme providers are as hot as nicey over misuse of their logo's or not, that's why I only mentioned nicey.

I think the customers are to blame ( and the scam providers for not making the general public aware it is just about making money for them) as when they get gas work done they know to get a gas safe contractor in to do the work etc..

I cant remember the last time i was asked for my qualifications, public and proffesinal indemnity insurance when every quote i give out says that they will be available on request.

If this guy/company was sued by his first customer he may have stoped but as they/he can still make money then why bother?

How far do surveyors go when for instance a house is being sold. This got past them:

Are they really going to start shifting wardrobes etc to look behind them and taking socket fronts off etc? They're NOT are they! Couple that with the vendor in a low cut top and nice plate of biccies and things like this get by.

Is that flashband down the wall on the first pic??
I thought it was duck tape.Quite apart from all the electrical wrongness, I just can't understand a customer "accepting" such shoddy work. Flush boxes on the surface with bare cables, surface boxes with great holes hacked out of them etc. If anyone did work like that in my house they would either put it right, or not get paid.

On the subject of NICEIC ACs doing dodgy inspections...I quite often come across a local AC who reckons the CS in TNCS means Cable Sheath. I rest my case
That's on a par with people who think LPG means Low Pressure Gas. I've even seen a plumbers van claiming to be a "Low Pressure Gas Specialist"

Sod the trading standards malarkey - local rag, anyone???

"Name & shame"...........

FFS, I dunno about not bothering to get out of bed, this person shouldn`t be using up our precious oxygen supplies by continuing to breathe. Scabby wazzock.

Though I DO agree that the householder MUST share some responsibility, for paying up - I wouldn`t have!!!!!

I reckon it is flashband,,,probably bonded it as well.

Oh, forgot.....Ip and Ze infinity

What did he think the TN stands for? Totally Normal? Towards North? Trapped+Nicked?

I think Dave's comments were more in respect of all that the Niccy ever seem to do is prosecute those that mis use their logo rather than looking into poor standards or complaints.

I know I'm late! Didn't see page 2 doh!!!

looks like the shower consumer unit? on the left hand side.. has the shower cable coming into it, then hes come out with the 1.5mm cable into the consumer unit?

also, looks like no main earth from consumer unit to MET on the service head.

back today to make a start at fixing this disaster....

upon closer inspection, notice that the shower cable from MCB is a bit burnt....

and it wasnt connected very well at the other end either

PB053785.jpg

also notice that there is a dead short L-E

looks like this is the problem part

PB053790.jpg

moving on, quick test of the lights shows a dead short L-E..

PB053798.jpg

that would be the only screw holding the light to the ceiling. and it didnt actually go into anything else either

also note a lack of earth continuity upstairs, and find this under the floor

wonder what he used to cut the busbar? his teeth?

PB053775.jpg

and i wonder what the point of this was?

few other major things

the earths from his new lighting circuit was connected to the board. along with the earth to most other circuits, although they only went as far the a terminal block half a metre away. there was earthing conductor or bonding (bonding was done, just not connected), so due to the screw through the cable, the earth would have been live at all times, and the RCD/MCB would not have tripped due to no fault current anywhere. also, its probably a good thing he didnt bother to connect the earth from the sockets to the board, otherwise that would have been live (although with a bit of luck it may have been enough fault path to trip the RCD.... either that, or it did trip RCD until they were removed, guess i will never know the answer to that one)

as for the 1.5 feeding the shower CU, there was no need. i simply took the shower cable from shower CU and connected it into the new CU, since it was long enough same with 2 of the other circuits he joined with terminal block to extend

overall, im more surprised that the place didnt burn down, oand that no-one was killed by it

I'm guessing he earthed the screw on the board, knowing how he isn't very accurate with screw positioning? Or perhaps he was attaching to a pipe behind as his main earth???

Having seen even more detail of this man's completely utterly shoddy and unsafe work, I really do feel Trading standards should be involved.

At the VERY LEAST he should repay every penny back to the customer as not a single joint appears to be safe.

Even better, surely there MUST be some way people like this can be stopped before it's too late and they kill someone. I really do find it astonishing this bloke hasn't already killed someone, and wonder just how many properties he has left in such a dangerous state.

This isn't some minor error or small technicality, this is the work of an idiot that has not got a single clue about what he is doing, yet appears to be getting away doing shoddy work and charging for it.
