Right.... just to try and clarify a few bits..
I assume cuz you done your recent C&G, you have a copy of BS7671 wiring reg's & On-Site-Guide? which you will know are just guidance for good practice NOT statutory... i.e. it has no stipulation as to what qualifications you need to undertake work.
BUT
within business & commercial work Heath & safety laws would require persons to be competent
and in Domestic since Jan 2005 Building regulations part P is a legal requirement, that also requires persons to be competent.
The C&G exams are one of the key bench marks to assess competence.
The building reg's part P requires certain work to be notified, New CU's, New circuits, work in bathrooms, kitchens gardens etc..
There are three paths for notifying work to LABC...
1. The complete DIY novice:
notify LABC before start work.. they sort out testing & cert's
Pay big fee to LABC
2. Electrically competent but not member of Part P scheme operator:
notify LABC, you provide Elec Cert with your test results etc..
they verify the bits they want & provide part P compliance cert.
Pay not quite so big fee to LABC
3. Member of Part P scheme: do the work, issue Elec cert's & notify everything yourself via your scheme provider.
Pay annual membership (BIG) & small notification fees for each job!
Probably the best thing would be for you to get a copy of "Approved Document P"
e.g. buy a copy
