Evening all.

Long time no speak, hope you are all well.

Quick question. Testing a block of flats today. Electrical system was installed in 2000. No RCD protection on any circuit (which was not required back then)

As the installation was carried out to an earlier edition of BS7671, which did not require RCD protection, should I note the fact that RCD protection is absent on circuits buried at a depth of <50mm? If so I assume C3?

Cheers

GS

Well as you are testing to BS7671:2008(2011) then it should receive a code IMHO unless it doesn't require RCD protection for some reason.

But I'd check the ESCs EICR best practice guide

Follow the link for the guides, the EICR one is guide 4 issue 3

Best practice guides : Electrical Safety Council

Code 3 in most instances, Code 2 if sockets supply outside equipment.

Cheers for the reply's guys.

Decided I will give C3 for the lack of RCD protection, but overall assesment will be satisfactory (as RCD protection was not required at the time of install.)

Evans - I have been up to my neck with work for the last 10 months or so. Took another spark on and had to go VAT registered, then bought another van, so the paperwork has more than doubled, hence why I havn't been on here for a fair few months! Can't complain though. Things seem to be going well....touch wood!

Hope everyone is busy and keeping well!

Cheers
