Went to a call out today, no hot water from an electric water boiler. The cylinder type with 2 elements, both had the thermal cut outs failed, the boost element wouldn't reset and looked like it had, had water damage. Any ideas to what would cause water to get into the cut out, or why both would fail?

Got a plumber coming this week to replace the whole element as the cutout wont come out due to being rusted in.

HI Sellars.

If its a standard type cylinder and not the Megaflow variants then it could be the stat sleeve failed which has allowed water into the boost section.

As to why it failed could be age or overheating..sometimes the dual types are run with both elements on at the same time if manually switched and this can overheat the elements. Replacement stats will be of the dual cut out type and are much safer....some Ir and continuity tests are best carried out if you havent already done so

a1spark.
