Hi

Ive just started at a water company doing maintenance as a trainee which is all new to me as I have come from a domestic backround. Just wondering if anyone knew of any decent books to read up on for electrical maintenance, pumps motors and instrumentation etc

Feel a bit out my depth at the moment but determined to learn as much as I can so any decent books, websites or sources to help me out would be would be very much appreciated

cheers

cheers for reply new to this site so still figuring how to navigate through it cheers

There used to be a book series , printed in the 1950's and 1960's and naturally I can't remember the name . Possibly Newnes ?     If you looked at them now you 'd think "How old fashioned" but some stuff never changes .

A motor is tripping out on a conveyor track .............the human brain works on the Loch Ness syndrome .......   motor tripping ,must be the motor .....Loch Ness ...must be a monster.   But a few tight bearings on the conveyor will be making the motor work harder....work hard ...more current ...more heat....winding failure ....overloads trip....motor saved.       Run the motor free all is well.     That sort of stuff anyway .....all gone now , lent out to people and like your records and books never seen again.

The Newnes books were good and as you say still relevant today.

I’ve pointed the OP in the direction of Knowledgebase where under motor testing is check the mechanical loading.

I’ve near come to blows with a fitter who insisted the motor was ****ed, the fact I was doing pull ups on the radicon input shaft cut no ice with him.

Or the phone call, "can you check the motor overloads on XXXX conveyor, they keep tripping". I enjoyed walking in the control room with an arm full of shovels (banjos in quarry speak).
