The swing only swung one way then, we used to have employees like that.....
The swing actually swung both ways...forwards in their direction and then straight back into my face and smashing all my teeth out. One of them even thought I should pay his parking fine when he was using the van out of hours AND 40 odd miles away from where it should have been!.... :coat

Consumables were always the hardest to come by, hacksaw blades, tape, etc had to pinch them from other sites.

Allthough we started one job with weeks and weeks worth of tray and uni-strut to be installed, presumed a chop saw would be included but about 50 hacksaw blades came with the gear. Great! Character building so its known as.

One firm I worked for in the early 70s had the old fashioned storeman set -up.

You went into the office on a Thursday afternoon, 4.00 pm ish, handed in your time sheet, collected wages (in packet) and tried to replace consumables from the stores.

First thing to know was , when asking for hacksaw blades, the answer to the question "What are you cutting ?" was "6" trunking" .

If not you were given 10" blades not 12".

The other thing you needed to know was when you ordered a 1/4" HSS drill ( to fit those infernal Enox cutters) you would be given a 5/32" which was of no use whatsoever. The supercillious storeman would announce that asking for a 1/4" drill meant you wanted 1/4" clearance , hence the 5/32" .

The only way round this was to take the useless drill and swop it with the pipefitters on site , who seemed to love them.

Sounds like my college days, having to ask for 6242Y instead of 2.5 twin. If you asked for twin it was like you were speaking in chinese.
