My car (04 Cmax diesel) has been making funny noises which have gradually been getting worse. Its a sort of du du du du du noise which generally starts about 50 - 60 but no vibration felt like you would expect with tyre unbalance. Just jacked up each wheel in turn and checked for play in bearings. Even drove the car and spun wheels up to 80 and sounded fine.

Anyone a car expert? CV joints?

TBH been thinking of spending another

If you go for a Mondeo diesel go for 2.0L (or 2.2) engine, I had a 1.8 and was badly underpowered!

I liked the car, even tho it was an old mans car!

I wouldn't worry about that mileage on a diesel engine car, it's barely run in. I bought a 2.0dt Vecra last year with 125,00 miles on the clock. I've done 12,000 miles in it & it's been a great runner & not cost me a penny in maintenance.

Check any possible increases in insurance & road tax & also compare mpg.

107,000 miles!
Old school thinking there. The specs for my engine give a full run in guide, what to do when etc... my 1.9 TDi VW PD engine is officially run in at 60,000 miles. Quite the norm these days, and the Merc CDi is one of the best diesels out there.

I don't doubt it. It's the wear on all the other components that worries me!

Well, cars donr seem to wear out like they used to. I have driven a few cars most of mine have had over 100000 on the clock but don't remember the last time I needed a clutch for example. Also take a look around at how old some cars are. I noticed an F reg Nissan the other day and it looked spotless. 20 years old!

I think the secret of having a reliable Vauxhall, is not to take it to a main dealer for anything, even servicing. They're total carp, all of them.

Have had an Astra as a company car in the past and have used several dealers, all of who talk through their A holes.

Got my own Astra estate now, had it since 2006, its now done 126k and runs perfectly.

I would never buy another Vauxhall again. Few Yrs ago I bought a 3 yr old Veccy SRi. Low miles etc and just outta warranty. Cam chain snapped causing

Check your springs as we had to have new ones on a fiesta front spring busted due to speed bumps on all local roads.Similar sounds as you are getting Like you thought it was a cv joints, need to get it in the air try Kwik fit for a free inspection.
thanks I will do that. I had a mondeo a few years ago and broke the front springs (I dont slow down for speed bumps) - had a landrover after that and didnt need to slow down for speed bumps. MOT time soon so all will become evident (unless I've pxed it for that merc by then!)

Well passed MOT without a hitch bar bulb, wipers and tyre. However decided its going. Off to Bradford in the morning to check this out.

A bit more comfy than the Cmax hopefully and nearly as economical according to the figures.
