the sky comment wasn't aimed at you mate :) FULL HD = a resolution of 1920x1080 pixels and capable of displaying a 1080p signal which is a resolution of 1920x1080 in progressive scan.

HD ready = a resolution that is higher than SD(standard definition) but not 1080p("HD" generally has a few recognised resolutions being 480i, 480p, 720i, 720p, 1080i and 1080p but some TV's display a non-standard resolution that has to be scaled sadly. its a bit of a mine field if your not savvy to be honest.)

interlaced = this is how TV used to be displayed, what happened was you had a refresh rate of 50hz (50 frames a second) but it was made up of only 25 images where they displayed the odd lines of a frame followed by the even lines of a frame so it spread a 25fps video over 50fps which resulted in a smoother video but fine horizontal lines would shake/jump if they were split over odd and even lines.

progressive scan = with progressive scan the entire frame would be displayed on every scan so images no longer shake/jump.

i hope that helps rather than hinders.
OK, thanks. It was still a great bargain package i got, its just i would have waited an extra month for the HD tuners but got pressurised into getting that one then. This tv has so many gadgets i have not even looked up yet, such as the internet connection.

What about 3d Tv's ?

How is 480 higher than SD? You missed 576i, 576p, 768i and 768p off that list too. 480i & p are mainly aimed at the states as their SD is 480 so the jump to 720 was much greater than our jump from 576 to 720.

Our SD is 625 and DVD is 576, but your point is well made, HD = 720 or 1080

all other derive from PC resolutions and stem from the 480 TV standard and the ratio of 4:3

It does not specifically state FreeSat, however if you can tune in BBC HD it might not be relevant, but I would ask when I bought it if it will receive BBC & ITV HD, so you can return it if not
I am sure it said on the box it could receive them. It also listed something like 500 channels, but a disclaimer to say the line up and availability changes all the time so check with the channel

We transmit 625 but only 576 is displayed. the rest is used for teletext etc...

As I recall it's more like 4 lines using VBI, the amount of bandwidth used by teletext is very small
