heights of switches

What height can you put a switch on a re wire its not a new build its a house built years ago probly 50 years ago.A new build yes 1200 to the top of the switch maximum  but with an old build isnt it basically anything where you want i prefer a height of 1400 but thats me?

To answer the question, any height you like. A new build has to comply with the building regs that dictate the heights, but not a rewire.

Is that correct? I thought there was some rule that went along the lines of: if the property is being partially renovated then it is accepted that switches/sockets can be in keeping with existing, but if the property is being refurbished the compliance to new regs is required??

Disclaimer: I could be wrong in all that I've said.

ANy help on this would be great its been a grueler i have had to re alter the kitchen wiring because the kitchen fitter didnt like where the cooker was because of the backdoor possibley hitting. Cooking equipment and spillages etc did that after work i need to know about the switch heights guys

I was going to suggest he used a tape measure to check the height of the switches his electrician had installed during the rewire of the new house?

If a kitchen fitter told me to move something in my own house there would be spilt claret.

new height is the height of my shoulder....unless it is a NEW build OR customer requests it

I thought it should be made no less accessable and only a new build has to be between 450mm-1200mm..... unless there is reason not to, or somethign like that.

I always match existing property, new build i do 500mm/1150mm to centre of boxes.

No proper plan? or busy body kitchen fitter? everyone needs to be organised. A couple weeks ago i had some muppet tell me to install a 10mm cable for the industion hob because thats what they always use, 6mm went in.
