Missus wants a new electric hob - nowt wrong really with the old solid plate one other than it's brown and she wants a black one (is she subconsciously telling me something maybe)!

Anyway, would go for Bosch induction myself but for price so was looking at a Zanussi ceramic with touch controls in black for just under the

these lesser models are made in the same factory as the well known ones

ever bought spares for an oven and they fit numerous models ?

Just realised that you need special pans to go with the induction hobs so another thing for her to blame when dinner tastes sh!t! And to think I dumped her mate who was at catering college..........the things that girl could do with a leftover chicken carcass!

Mum had a plate on the wall years ago, said "Kissin don't last, cookin do!". How true those words turned out to be!

Induction hobs sound like a PITA TBH.

We replaced our old type solid rings jobby for a halogen hob , black glass thing , can't remember the make and if I go down to look the missus will say " What are you doing ? Come and watch the Olympics"

Just remember if you change from ceramic to induction you may need a new supply. The last induction I fitted was 9Kw

Yep, that's the sort of thing she wants. Black, touch controls up the right hand side as you look at it. Stainless trim round the edge maybe. Hours of reading here as to "who's who" in the domestic appliance world. No surprises really, seems just as in the electrical trade you have companies trading more than one well known name (think Wylex, Volex, Crabtree). I think Bosch, Neff & Siemens are tied. But didn't realise AEG & Zanussi are part of Electrolux.............

If you went for Bosch or Siemens you should get quality.Zanussi and Hotpoint are linked , many parts the same I believe.
I don't think Hotpoint & Zanussi are linked TBH. Hotpoint IS linked with Indesit, in fact I think it's the Indesit Company that own Hotpoint. Was a bit of a squit over more recent Hotpoint washing machines coming with a sealed drum and integral pump........they were in fact cheapo Indesits underneath! Lucky I have the earlier model, an F05 pump/drain fault the other day turned out to be a wedged bra wire which I was able to remove. Did offer to check the one she was wearing but no joy..................Zanussi as I said are owned by the Electrolux Group.

(I'm that sad that I spend my time split between here U K Whitegoods and The Lawnmower Forum..............)

Cheers. Yes, aware of that thanks. One of the considerations. Current one is 6kW fed by 6mm off a 30A C50. I've run 25mm galv conduit in the wall and simply re-routed the existing cable in it for now but it's "future proof" for a bigger cable later.

Zanussi and Electrolux hobs are now owned by AEG British made. A safe bet if you want quality and value for money. Siemens and Bosch are the same company that are german made and you will pay more for these but also a very good appliance. Coming from a kitchen design background and I haven't heard any bad reports on either of these makes. Induction hobs are far more superior than halogen and gas in safety and control.

Hope this helps slightly good luck :D

Erm.........your comments are at odds with this then...........it's ELECTROLUX who seem to own pretty much EVERYTHING:

Electrolux Domestic Appliance Group

I wasn't considering AEG because of experience of their recent power tools but guessing it's a case of TTI using the AEG name on drills and Electrolux using it on domestic appliance stuff. So two different AEGs! Saying that, my Mum has an AEG fridge freezer and bits just drop off it!

Quite like the look of this Samsung one actually and have found a bit cheaper too:

Yes sorry its actually called AEG/Electrolux which is owned by Electrolux but really that doesn't matter cos it's all the same group anyway whatever way round I meant!!

Just found this Whirlpool induction one at Currys (and can get a bit cheaper elsewhere too). 7kW so borderline on my current breaker. Wife a bit resistive as in "But I like my old saucepans!" when I told here she'd have to change them all if we go induction. She should use 'em more then I might be sympathetic!

Well............for better or worse I've gone for an induction hob MADE IN ISRAEL! Time will tell on it I guess. A name I've NEVER heard of and from COMET. The make is "ELECTRA ELECHEIB" - looked them up and they appear a multi million dollar outfit. Figure with all the problems the Israeli's have they're NOT going to put up with rubbish domestic appliances when they get home. Plus they all have to do national service so hopefully that discipline will spill over into their manufacturing side. Let's face it the Israelis export defence kit BACK to the US now!

Did I mention the price? Down on a special from

Got the ELECTRA induction hob tonight.............stamped "MADE IN TURKEY". Didn't expect that from an Israeli company with the old religious divide thing. Just shows where there's money involved etc. Anyway, it doesn't look too bad at all. Only downside is it's 7.3kW as opposed to the old 6kW one. So.............though the 6mm clipped is ok, really the old C50 30A breaker could do with upping to 32A and as you can't get them to my knowledge in 32A looking at a cu change! TBH I've been putting it off pending the double row, DP RCBO board but for now I'll get a "temporary" split load job in place of the old Crabtree one. All good fun.
