hi guys, iv been asked to install an alarm system in a house im rewiring, but i have no experience at all installing one. i know how 2 wire 1 as are company makes us do all wiring for alrms an data then the engineers come out and fit it out. could anyone explain the basics of what way the devices are connected and how the panel is connected. most panels iv seen are filled with resistors and connector blocks which makes them look complicated.

thanks 4 any feed back

Not complicated just a lot of repeated wiring if there are a lot of zones..

Typical PIR sensor needs 6 wires: 2 for (+/-12v), 2 for (tamper contacts), 2 for (trigger contacts).

Any door or window contacts need 4 wires: 2 for (tamper contacts), 2 for (trigger contacts).

Remote keypads need 6 wires: 2 for (+/-12v), 2 for (tamper contacts), 2 for (data signals).

Alarm boxes typically only need 5 wires.

So in a nut shell as long as you wire a 6-core cable from all of the points you want to fit stuff..

back to where you want to fit the main panel.. You will be laughing.

Then just double check in the manual which of the numerous connections in the panel refer to zones / keypads / alarm boxes etc..

Just join all you ends up as per the guidance of the instruction book that comes with the panel!

jobs a goodun!!!

texecom stuff doesnt have tamper connections at RKP's. its through data connections

but its still easier to wire in 6 core, instead of a mix of 6 & 4 core in the house

The above three posts highlight the good reason to get a look at the manual for the system you are installing, if the customer is supplying the equipment may be best to arrange to view the manual a day or two before you are there in the thick of it installing & connecting wires
