I Found A Lamp £1000 Cheaper

I do some work at a local private hospital.

Today one of the girls asked me if i had seen a type of lamp before and if i knew where i could get one.

PE300BF lamp made by PerkinElmer.

The hospital had a quote of around £1200 for 1 lamp. +£12 delivery.

I did a quick google and found 1 for £400, then another for £300, ebay even had one for £150.

Luck it wasn't the NHS, they would have probably paid double!

at £1200 for a lamp, i would expect free delivery

So what is it with these lamps? Even the ebay one, £150 for a 300W lamp.

I guess this is for an operating theatre?  What makes this lamp worth 100 or more times the cost of an equivalent halogen lamp?

its got 'medical' printed on the side? ink is expensive...

Aren't they xenon lamps?

They have to buy from suppliers on approved suppliers lists.  Once your on the list you can charge what you want.

Its a Xenon and i think its for an Endoscope. They have a few Endoscopes and MRI scanners there.

It is a private hospital, but they do stuff for NHS and charge them.

There is no proper facilities manager, just doctors left to manage it. I got in there as i know one of the girls that works there. I invoice them direct, i am not on any approved list, except for NICEIC.
