a capacitor of capacitive reactance 50ohms, an inductor of 80ohms inductive reactance and a resistor of 40ohms are connected in series to a 200 50Hz supply. the impedanceof the circuit will be ?

where do a start.

50 up and 80 straight down (if pure) leaves 30ohm inductive reactance.

Now use trigonometry (i can't remember the formula)

30 straight down and 40 pure resistance horizontal. then find the length of the hypotenuse and the angle

god father got this of a city & guilds sheet a can never understand what they want that`s why i put so many questions on here. thanks 170ohms look`s good.

jono`s post can`t be write the 4 answers they have giveing me is

40ohms

50ohms

80ohms

170ohms

they i mean city & guilds.

thanks andy.

does this get any easier ? i wanna go and find a bridge.

i am just pleased you don`t charge by the hour a would be well skint.

thanks again pal.

We did it with slide rules when I was learning, we could not use calculators!

Never had to work out complex formula since to be honest
