Hello Mart:

Lets go through your list one-at-a-time, shall we?

CITB certificate: I personally don`t have one, and don`t think I`ve ever spoken to someone who has - so I couldn`t possibly comment.

EAL - DEI: Have a look at the plethora of posts on the recent "5 week wonder - urban myth" thread. That is basically what the DEI course is - "how to" on basic domestic wiring, and supposedly testing. I have sat on the course (think mystery shopper), and I reckon anyone with half a brain can gain that "qualification"- for what its worth.

2882 - Pretty much a pre-requisite for anything in the industry, is knowing the current regulations. You need to be able to do two things to pass this: read a regs book, and look at an index. BINGO - you`ve passed :)

I haven`t done 2392 (it didn`t exist when I did 2391), so can`t comment. 2391...you really need to have a good understanding of, not only what to do, but WHY you`ve got to do it. I think its reputation is fairly well known (40% pass rate) ; although they`ve apparently made it easier recently. I wouldn`t advise unless you know the fundamentals, and have at least some experience in inspection &test.

2377 - PAT test.

I don`t have it. You don`t NEED it to do PAT testing, if that floats your boat - though it is very hard to make decent money at PAT testing, whilst doing it properly, and it must be one of the most mind-destroying, boooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooring jobs I`ve ever done. I DO offer PAT as part of my portfolio; but i don`t go looking for PATting jobs, if you know what I mean.

The entry level course used to be 2330 - but I think that`s being changed. Someone may be able to shed light on my dark areas......good luck mate.

Hi Martin ,welcome to the Forum.

The younger guys on here will tell what courses are the right ones when they read your post. I qualified in 1066.

I can only say the following .

a) If the Army are paying ,then go for it !!!

B) In the present climate there is not much work about. Construction trades have taken a right battering .

c) As KME says, and as far as I am aware , you don't need a qualification in PAT testing ( Other than having your mind numbed by boredom)

d) As an ex squaddie :Salute I wish you the best of luck but adding that there are a hell of a lot of "Would be Sparks" in the system, chasing very little work.

Stick with the Forum and let us know how you get on .
