Mrs Robin was well happy that i bought her a new TV for the bedroom yesterday.

Reception on analogue and freeview is crystal until someone has a shower then on freeview the screen is totally broke up pixelated and on analogue a bit of interference the same as the old tv.

Shower is electric with internal pump fed from tank in loft spurred from upstairs ring main.

their is a tv booster/ distribution amp in loft.

Oh just tried main tv in lounge on freeview and that was pixelating a bit as well, although normally watch sky on this tv.

Shower pumps often have brushed motors, and I'll bet the brushes are arcing and are not suppressed.

The cure however is likely to be improve the screening of all cables, double screened satellite coax rather than cheap tv coax, and route all coax cables well away from mains cables.

Your freeview signal is probably a bit marginal, so a larger or better tv aerial would also help.

I have got some pf100 cable so will try that at first. Dont really want to start messing about with the shower as its working fine although cant believe how noisy it is!

Well its only going to take 5 mins to drop a cable from loft into bedroom to see if its any better.

apart from replacement is there anything i can do with the shower eg fit a suppression capacitor etc?

I get the pixelated freeview too mate and alot of the time only get few channels but it gets better if I move the coax away from mains cable but this ain't possible in my front room so have to make do. Prob alot to do with cheap coAx cable tho.

If you've used decent coax then interference from mains 'shouldnt be much of a problem. the first thing I would do is check all connectors from amp and tv, to make sure thay are ok. another tip would be to wrap your amp loosely in chicken wire, this should help with most of the outside interference.

Our dect phone/transformer causes a lot of pixelating on freeview, just moved it away and its fine.

Going to have a look at things over the weekend, will let you all know how i got on. Cheers hope you all have a good one Guinness

The Farady cage theory^ may work with the shower pump. Earth it to the pump cpc.

Sure its not the booster fed off same circuit as shower pump?
Yes that right, in the loft there are 3 sfcu's, for shower pump, whirlpool bath, central heating and a socket outlet for tv booster all on same cct.

I didnt have time last weekend to sort problem with TV, but if you think this is the reason then maybe another avenue for me to look at.

Try running booster of different circuit to see if problem still exists. You could run booster of extension lead to try it.

its not a faraday cage, its just used to shield it. earth the chicken wire as well if you can.

Well it IS a basic version, even though the post I replied to seems to have vanished!

An earthed metallic conductive mesh surrounding an em radiator pretty much like a Farady cage to me?

NOT perfect I admit. However, sounds pretty similar to the Faraday CAGE principle I studied at Uni!

The faraday cage is were you dont get a shock from touching the cage because the voltage on it has been raised to the same voltage as the voltage you may be touching.

Ie....if the cage was raised to 240v then you would not get a shock if you touched a live conductor and the cage at the same time cos they are same.
