We have something that we have affectionately named "The Portable Appliance Tester Control Under Non-standard Tests" device. I would post the acronym but fear the forum filters might pick up on it for some reason. Anyway, it's a 4-foot length of 2x4" wood with a 6-inch nail driven through one end. We have a notice in the server room that basically says if they so much as look at one of my servers they'll end up with it wrapped around their head. Yes, a prison sentence would probably lie in wait, but I'm confident that would be easier than the carp I'd have to deal with if a server got fried. For added measure though, our server room is locked, and all servers are also in a locked rack - nobody is getting in there without my say so.

I was working in a bank in a suburb of Auckland, NZ. I was installing some data points. Just patching them in to the hub in the comms room when manager comes running in "what have you done? Everything has gone down"  I stopped and looked at the RJ45 in my hand and pondered over how that could have caused the disaster. No UPS or backup, all power to PCs had gone down. Then a flustered looking AC engineer came in rushing around frantically. He had blown something up on the roof... I helped him restore power and got all the servers and PCs up and running again and made sure the Bank Manager knew who's fault it was.

LOL....

talking of RJ45 plugs... I lent a mate my crimper and a dozen plugs to make off 1 end of a cat5 cable that he'd put in through his house....... I got a call at 3:30pm from a very frustrated mate asking me to help him.... He'd spent the previous 4 hours trying to make off 1 plug!!!!! :shakehead

He left me 2 plugs.... It took me all of a couple of minutes.... Boy did I laugh :slap

Did you think for a split second that it actually could have been you as well? I can picture it, similar scenarios happened to me on a few occasions. "But I haven't done...... wait, a minute, could it be?"
