Falsely claiming to be NICEIC registered & part P registered :slap

From what I hear on the local wholesale counter grape vine, he was caught out by another sparks called in to rectify some work. The sparks suggested to the customer he check up with LBC as the work should have been notified.

So at least my LBC are chasing reported electrical fraudsters.

Well done to them - about soddin` time, TBH. The more scam-dodging toe rags we can get out of our business, the higher the standards will get, and the work should start to come back to the tradesman, not "My mate in the pub that`ll do it for a couple of pints and a packet of fags!".

As for the NICEIC bit - I reported a local plumbing firm to my AE Nov `09, during my inspection visit. Saw the van last week, STILL sporting its NICEIC AC sticker! Grrrrrrr

"get `em grassed" - needs to be the new countrywide slogan from the LABCs - they`ll make money from the fines, and we can pay less taxes.........

(oops - sorry. Still had the specs on, with the pale rose tint) :coat

It's nice to see that the NICEIC are clamping down,, but it's only on misuse of their logo and nothing else

now if it were on the cowboys/non registered sparks doing notifyable works then that'd great,,, but that's not going to happen I'm afraid, LABC's don't seem to be interested

Quote from a "news" email I recieved today from the NIC.

"NICEIC has vowed to continue its clampdown on rogue traders after another electrician was found guilty of falsely claiming to be NICEIC registered.

Newbury based Gary Crossman, who trades under the name of G C Electrical, was fined

So the only thing he did "wrong" was use the NECIEC logo without being a member.

Does that mean, if he hadn't wrongly use that logo, no action would have been taken regarding his part P activities?

The NICEIC have always followed up on reports of their logo being wrongly used. The LABC then only jumps in if bad workmanship was found.

I noticed this week, a plumber i know is falsely using the NAPIT logo on his cards. Should i shop him ?

YES!

Why would you not? They`re the ones scamming the customers which WE should be able to quote to, on an even playing field - as long as these numpties can get away with it; the work available to us will be limited, and slowly dwindling; as more and more customers (and sparx) stop bothering about the (huge) extra costs incurred by doing your work "above board".

My opinion, anyway.....

it doesnt sound like he has had any action taken about not notifying?

That's what it looks like.

So as long as you don't rip off a scam providers logo, and do a good standard of work, then no action will be taken for you claiming to be part P but not.

As I've said many a time before, I'm so so glad we don't have this part p nonsense north of the border.

At the end of the day its up to the home owner to ensure its done although it could be argued they had discharged their responcibility by engaging a Part P registered spark to undertake and notify the work.
but they hadnt had they?
