And why not I ask?

If all schools are to be removed from local authority control and granted Acadamy status then here in Brum say,  all those school buildings, staff , janitor , school meals & cleaning etc  will be lifted from council control ....................resulting in a massive saving all round.

And I thought you meant that less people will be paying as the economy is set to weaken and many will become unemployed (if you believe the scaremongers of this world) ??

No Sharpie ,   this authority is , I believe , the second largest Metropolitan bourough in Europe and although they do not disclose it, the spending on all the schools in Birmingham must be massive .

If they are to be run by central funds then ALL councils should be lowering their council taxes .

All I can see is that on top of the general rates I pay  :

Adult social care precept   £18.02

Fire & Rescue                   £43.58

West Mids Police &

Crime commissioner          £86.76

(  Never happen I hear you say!!)

Don't be daft.

All  that will happen is the block grant to the councils will drop. In fact that will probably drop by MORE than the cost of running the schools, so your council tax will go UP.

Yes I know i'm a cynical old git, it's a result of life.

Council tax may have been 'Frozen' for a few years now but we have been getting far less for output money year on year. So in actual fact it is has been going up. The councils are doing a lot less for the same money.

What our Council tax gets spent on are the Civil Service Pensions - this is never admitted but its fact.
:slap :pmsl1: ....................................That'll be why they have just raided my pension & sent me a nice letter saying opt out is no longer happening & as such I now loose the 1.4% rebate on NI = when you retire you will not have the pension you signed the contract for & by the way the 1% pay rise you were getting will now be cancelled out by the 1.4% rise in your personal NI contributions..............oh yes forgot to say we also have another 4 years of pay freeze at 1% so that will now be knocking of for 8 years with a pay freeze & 2 with no rise at all (in effect we end up with a real term pay cut due to living costs rising)

People believe me when I say things are only gonna get worse with respect to what your pubic sector services will be able to provide already there are combined services (fire fighters as first responders......yep just think USA as to how things could potentially go.)

I would not be worrying about the council tax, but i would be worried if you have kids, as, free education is rapidly disappearing.... Tory ***** are making it just the was it was prior to 1902, education is for those that can afford it....

Oh, and the NHS has been privatised too, and shortly will not be free anymore [tory bastards forgot to tell you though]

john...

I am not worried about education of the future. It is already at rock bottom started by Tony Blair's 50% university target. That made degrees worthless because everyone had one.

My advice to my son will be; get in a job early and stick at it. Work your way up through the ranks.  Clearly there are exceptions such as doctors but my son will probably gravitate to a vocational job.

degrees are worth having if it's a decent subject, not garbage like 'Media Studies'.

As for council pensions, these are contributory schemes, ie the staff pay out of their wages.

As for council services, 30% slashing of funding can only have one result - don't expect diddly from your local council cos they haven't got the staff to do it anymore, and you can certainly expect a rise in potholes.

Ian Duncan Smith summed it up in his resignation letter, the cuts are no longer for economic reasons, but for Tory dogma - the decimation of the public sector and the 'state', oh, and the better off get a tax cut....
