I cant believe so many people go to so much trouble to avoid using it on new builds.

Its not exactly difficult to use.

Saves time in having to bang clips in etc, only to find they dont hold.

This is totally confusing are you saying you use capping or not. I have never had a problem fixing it, generally new builds are either breeze or thermalite so 3.75mm x 65 mm galv nails easily affix to these and if its brick I use 2.5 nail clips in the mortar joints. I really cannot see why people would have trouble using capping.

It's extremely rare for us to be involved on new builds - and I could see that capping would be useful in that case.

If you are chasing out it seems pointless to fit capping as you need to make the chase twice as wide as necessary.

also using capping can sometimes allow you to pull your cables back/pull new ones thro if needed. cant do that if plastered straight over cables, damamage to decs etc. also thought that plaster can degrade sheathing over time.
And the outer sheath gets ripped to bits by the bricks and morter

Masonry nails can often get you out of a sticky situation with capping. Longer than cable clip nails and stronger than clouts. I use oval or capping its just a better job.

There have been times when I have praised the previous sparky as I have managed to pull the old cable out of the capping to relocate to a new position without smashing up most of the wall.

Isnt it nice on a rewire when you can re-use some of the old switch drops that are conduit?
