I was idling away my time watching a Q&A thing on the wholesalers telly today. Q. Does mixing different MCB's affect the boards rating A [from Voltium's MD] Yes, because they are different the board will no longer be complaint with 60439.3

considering volex/wylex/crabtree breakers are identical apart from the name (remember the recall?), then it shouldnt make any difference

as for others, ive fitted many different makes into boards. just because its got a different name on it doesnt mean its not going to work

do the MCBs meet the appropriate BS standard? ie BS60898, then I see no reason not to mix providing they are a physical fit and not a made fit botch,

I've recently used some ECD RCBO's in a customer supplied Wylex board. They were of better quality and a third of the price of the Wylex ones.

Sounds like a sales ploy just to use their (voltium's) breakers in their boards

I've had an arguement about this before!

Although i generally try to keep all parts same brand i wouldnt specially buy another brand or leave a job to go get another brand, knowing ive got identical different brand parts in van.

As steptoe said, if they fit properly whats the problem

Deke,

There in lies a conundrum, SqD, Schneider & MG are all the same company, so thus you are not mixing breakers!

Same really as the Electrium group

Personally if I have to replace or add an MCB to a board and I can find one in the van that fits......Joy!! I think that provide that they meet the requirements of 60898 and they physicaly fit, then no probs.
