Hi,

Been doing some work on a garage conversion. Have extended the kitchen ring for 3 additional sockets and a flourescent tube from 3a FCU.

I was thinking of an external rcd unit but have never wired one of these before. I take it both legs of the ring are terminated to the outgoing side of the rcd but would I need to feed the RCD with 4mm?

A picture of the board is attached. Im not sure if I can put an RCBO in there as there wont be a seperate neutral bar?

Can anyone advise which way would be best to go please

Long day and head aint working so please be gentle lol

Cheers

Why can;t you put an RCBO in the board that's there? What has the neutral bar got to do with it? L to RCBO from busbar, N to RCBO from neutral bar, L & N to load from RCBO.

As for the external RCD, both legs to RCD outgoing, feed with whatever is suitable for the load and CPD option as you would with anything

not sure if you can get RCBOs for them anymore,

but fairly certain wylex will fit, though Im not sure if it will sit out to far thereby not allowing the front flap to close fully, I think it may be a few mil proud.

it isnt a powerbreaker CU, thats a sticker for a RCD fused spur if RCD socket warning not to shove 500V up the circuit.

Should be able to put an RCBO in that board an MK one will fit that way whole circuit is protected. Keep fingers crossed there are no faults on circuit.

Well spotted, wondered what an MK Powerbreaker CU was, just glanced at the pic, saw a Sentry board and moved on. I should be more pedantic.

Hi Batty thanks for replying mate. Have you actually fitted an MK RCBO to the board in my picture as i googled which rcbo for mk sentry and read on another forum that it wouldnt fit. Im not doubting you mate just wanna pick the right one up.

Will the wholesaler let me take 2 and bring 1 back without restock charge do you recon?

Thanks:coffee

Will fit.

Fitted 2 in an old sentry board a while back

It only the old boards that had the MCB'S with open terminals that the new RCBO's won't fit in then you can get a conversion jobbie that fits on the end of the board. That is quite an old board but they will fit.

If you ask Admin he might still have some old MK rcbos for the sentry boards in his shed..........I mean workshop.
