Jam jars have a pretty good seal round the lid anyway. There is quite a strong vacuum in them when you buy them [with the jam in them] Could you nto just use an ordinary nylon compression gland but seal inside the gland before you assemble it and do the nut up and around the gland too with polyurethane adhesive sealant?? Oh, and around the lid before you screw it back on. Or "tigerseal" or something.. There are loads of different ones, but they would all stick two battleships together..
