Right Chaps,

I have assesed the job now and have some more questions (sorry!)

The house is TT, the meter box is on an outside wall, tails have a 30ma rcd in the meterbox, the tails then go up in to the bedroom where the cu is at floor level. No spare ways 16th split board.

the job will consist of:

redirect the current over head cable supplying the garage to underground, all circuits in place.

install power to barn aprox 125m away from house, install lights and a socket inside, 2x floodlights outside

install power to stable aprox 5m away from barn, install 3 lights and a socket inside 2x floodlights outside.

ok question time,

1) as the tails have a 30ma rcd then would i be better spliting before rcd and installing a cu with a s type?

2) is it ok for this cu to be inside a water tight box outside next to the meterbox?

3) can i run the swa from the barn into the stable without running 2 feeds?

4) what size cable would you install? 10mm2?

5) a small cu in barn and stable?

thanks chaps,

sorry for this, just want to get it right

thanks again

Seperate meter box for your new submain feed sounds like a good idea with 100mA S type and then 30mA for final circuits - you may get away without having to put the lighting on 30mA if it's surface mounted/trunking/conduit...and also not a problem in having a sub main running off you barn DB

As for cable sizes, that can't be done without knowing the load!

so your thinking of a small db (2ways min ,garage, barn,) installed in water proof box next to meter ? seems fair

no need to rcd that db i think. forumites?

however barn, stable may/will require maximum 300ma so will be less expensive to install global 300ma but need concider nuisance

Yes. 100mA time delayed would be ideal.

2) is it ok for this cu to be inside a water tight box outside next to the meterbox?
Define "watertight box" please? Do you mean an enclosure, allowing access to the RCD, or a sealed box with the RCD inside? If the first, yes. If the second, no.

3) can i run the swa from the barn into the stable without running 2 feeds?
Yes.

4) what size cable would you install? 10mm2?
Unlikely to be acceptable at 125 Metres+ ; dependant on load. What floodlights will you use, what will be connected to the sockets? (I`ve had a customer in similar circumstances, who wanted an 8.5KW shower out there for washing the horses!!!!!)

5) a small cu in barn and stable?
Yup. Use either 30mA RCD front-end, or RCBos.

My red ;)

thanks lee, thats what i thought.

also, what is the best way of taking the sub main from the barn to the stable? ip box with swa in, feed to barn and swa out? or is there a better way of doing it? and what would i use to join the cables in there? or are connector blocks up to it?

thanks

don't understand!

Cu in barn with circuit out to stable

no joints needed ! ?

32a on a 6mm to stable at a off the hip guess

prob do it on a 4mm but its abit too faggoty in size to connect to a main isolator

ahh, sorry yeah see what you mean now so swa to cu in barn then another sub main from there to the stable! ok thanks

i take it swa can be joined? no doubt a roll is 100m and i will be 2 m short lol

order the right length then i.e 130m saves the cost of the joint and the work to do it :x

how can it only be 5m with drops?

if its that close don't fit another cu in stable supply the circuits from the barn cu!

SWA can be ordered in whatever length you want.. get an accurate measurement and then the wholesaler can order it off the manufacturer,, then get it delivered direct to site.

Remember that 130m of 10mm or 16mm SWA will weigh quite a bit, I doubt that you'll be able to pull it in by hand;)

easy peasy noz . really

make sure you nick the wholesalers jacks when u pick the cable up and return them after of course.
