Well, on Thursday afternoon about 1pm my new shed arrived. The bloke put it together and I stuck the felt of the roof, took the old shed to the tip and then started teaching myself about plastic conduit [a perfect use for a half days holiday :D ]!

Following on from this thread http://www.talk.electricianforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=9704

New shed:

I was going to take many pictures to document the process, but I was concentrating and sort of forgot!

A pic of the cable pulling:

Socket fronts going on:

I have just lost my push fit virginity. Ordered some 2 way push fits from CPC and a few lever Wago's and a small mixed pack from http://www.wagobox.com/

This is the middle shed all wired up

This is where The radial is cut and the singles start. Into a IP44 JB with cable tied drilled through for strain relief.

This is the existing shed which was wired in surface T&E that I converted to singles in conduit:

Ms Apache requested two outside lights for BBQ's etc if we get a summer

On the RHS you can see where I entered directly through the wall into the outside light fitting. On the end in front on the left hand side the socket circuit enters. Drilled through from the other shed that is lower. Pulled the bend using a 20mm internal spring. On the right hand side of the end wall is where the lights come through from the smaller shed - the outside bit is enclosed in conduit.

Also had a request for an outside socket

Other end of shed showing power to a DSO and down to the outside socket (directly through the shed wall) via a DP isolator. There is a DP isolator for the pair of outside lights tucked up close to the roof.

My new favourite tool - CK automatic cable stripper and a pair of cable shears

Any comments/criticism will be well received. Remember I had never done anything like this before! I did like playing with the flexible singles rather than stiff T&E. Still waiting on the new fluorescent fitting for the middle shed and the 2 gang switch for the shed lights!

:D

My comment?

I think its bloody great and an installation to be proud of.

I can only see one bad bit

Your tools are far too clean.

Thats really cool Apache and a good job. Who says Vets cant do it?

Let me at em!!

WELL DONE PATCH tons better then my vet doctoring!

Just a query, are the lights shown wired of the socket circuit?

Or is there a Consumer Unit/FCU out of shot?

Is the socket circuit you have extended a Ring Final or Radial?

I do....bring it on ;) :^O

Apache, I'm sorry but that job just isn't good enough. Now be a good trainee and go look at my thread on how to do things correctly :p

There is a shed consumer unit in my big 'workshop shed, I have not touched the wiring in there, so the workshop has a 20A radial and a lighting circuit. The radial was continued into the old shed and then back into the workshop shed. I have just taken a branch of the radial where it comes through, but it explains why I have 2 T&E and only 1 pair of singles.

Is the socket circuit you have extended a Ring Final or Radial?

Does the labelling help?

:D

Very nice work Apache, Do the outside lights have any automatic sensor or are they purely manual? Did you find the push-fit, wago type connectors quick to terminate? Thank you for the photos, as we often say, we always like photos on the forum.

No PIR just a switch. There is a PIR 150W security light on my shed that lights up the whole paved area as a security feature. Wanted those lights so that they could be switched on when needed and stay on!

I found them lovely - especially the lever ones.

I bought a pack of 20 2 way lever ones and a pack of 20 3 way lever ones and a starter kit - so I had a few of the less used variants

So easy to use, I just wish I'd invented them! (a little dear for a Yorkshireman ;)

I stand chastised.

I suppose I should have used the conduit as the earth too? Never thought of that.

:(

Apache you have a wasted talent ...........................

Nice looking job you should be proud 2 questions,

1) How did you find the CPC push fits compared to the Wagos ?

2) The Line clamp in the Jct box the furthest one of them doesnt look in properly.

Very similar, but much cheaper! I had a play with the 2 way push fit varieties of each and they do what they say on the tin. The cpc ones are 3p each the wago's are 7p each! But you can get the Wago's in a huge range of sizes, cpc just have 2 & 8 way listed.

2) The Line clamp in the Jct box the furthest one of them doesnt look in properly.
It is in OK - I just stripped a bit much insulation on one end terminal. I will go in the morning and shorten it - the beauty of the levers!

:D

Yes, but professional users only :innocent :innocent:innocent:C:innocent:innocent:C
Not strictly true if you contact Wagobox before placing the order and explain that you are at college studying 2330 he will gladly send the sample with brochures, he placed that bit in after recieving requests from places like Russia ! ! ! ! as he said to me " if you can take the time to make the call you are probably someone he should send a sample to "

The smilies tell the story. I may have accidentally added one to my recent order............
