Hi all I'm looking to join niceic domestic installers scheme, but I have no qualifications yet as I'm still doing my apprenticeship and I'll be finishing it next year. Do any of you know if its alright to join with out any qualification? I'm competent at what I'm doing. Also fo you need two jobs? Iv got one job which iv changed the consumer unit, put in a kitchen ring and installed a shower circuit. Cheers

Out of curiosity how did you notify these jobs? Did the council accept your certificates as you say you are not yet qualified?

or did you have to pay them to come and test it for you...?

Or have they NOT been notified?

Have you got Public liability insurance?

When I joined you had to have been trading for two years prior to application?

Do they not bother with this anymore????

:( :C

I have not notified the jobs as I'm wanting to get niceic registered to sign it off my self. Yes I have 2million public liability insurance.

I'll have to contact the local building control.

Welcome to the forum, Some may argue that by neglecting the statutory obligations to comply with Part P building regulations you are not as competent as you feel you are. I am not sure if an apprentice can be classed as a qualified supervisor, which is what you would need to be as self employed. When do the entry level requirements change? Jobs should be notified within 30days of completion, you do know that you leave the homeowner open to a fine for non-compliance by not following the procedures described in Approved document P?. We had a discussion about competence in this thread here, http://www.talk.electricianforum.co.uk/general-chat-area/15923-what-makes-you-competant.html It is more than just been able to use a few hand tools. Have you tried contacting the niceic to see what they suggest is your best approach?

Guinness think I'll apply to gas safe next week, we have a gas cooker in the kitchen.
mmmmm.....the only problem I can see with that is that you will only be able to work on gas cookers!

From talking to a few pipe-worriers that I know , you have to be certed on each separate item.

1 ticket for cookers, another for gas fires, another for boilers, another for water heaters etc

Imagine if we could only work on lighting circuits but not on socket circuits!...... :coat

1) You dont need to be registered to work on the cooker in your own kitchen

2) You do actually need to know how to turn the cooker on

3) Check your smoke & heat alarms + your insurance is up to date if you are going to try to use it.

4) :^O ; \ :^O

Smoke and heat alarms could be dodgy, I done those too. :CC

Turn it on?!

I have a wife for such matters, I cant be operating household appliances with my condition.
