Well,,, this afternoon I had an appointment with the optician...

I'm still short sighted,, hardly changed at all...... but I've just started to go long sighted as well :( not enough to need reading glasses yet, but enough that I need to remove my glasses to read close up

So... As I've not had a new pair of glasses in nearly 5 years I had to get some new ones... Because I need wide fitting glasses I'm very limited so I had to go for some lightweight rimless ones..... By the time that I've added reactions lenses they've cost me nearly £200 !!!!!! Cheaper than my alternative, contact lenses, I guess :|

Thankfully, I have no need of glasses... since the op last year my eyesight is spot on with no double vision at all now. Must be a right PITA hving to faff about with glasses, taking on and off to read etc?

TBH they don't bother me except when they become uncomfortable,,,,, I've been wearing them since I was 17,, that's 26 years ago!!

I was however seriously considering contact lenses again, purely for comfort

Ive been looking at having it done,

circa 3K apparently these days,

still, its what im hoping to get done next year.
When I had mine done it was £300 per eye and because they scraped the membrane off the surface of the eye in order to do the laser surgery the pain for a week was like nothing I have ever known to this day, so they did one eye and the other a year later. The modern way of lifting the membrane flap is way better but the reason it costs a lot more, but you are fine the very next day.

Having worn glasses for 20 years it was like wow and the best money I have ever spent, and would do again 100%

thanks Steve,

Id been thinking for a few years, but always wary,

then got talking to a guy this year and his wife had it done,

she convinced me it was the way to go,

youve just augmented that,

ive been for check up etc, so Im viable, just a matter of getting some spare cash and deciding who is the better one to go to.

The op I had was nothing to do with lasers, I had a weak superior oblique muscle which was causing double vision as my right eye couldnt follow the left. I once passed a motorway junction and 2 motorbikes joined on the slip road. It wasnt til they were 100 yards away that I realised there was only 1! Took 4 years before they finally got round to doing it. Thankfully the op was a success and I can see clearly now (Yes Lorraine has gone)

Ah yes. Opticians and glasses.

Up until 2 years ago, my eyes were okay, just.

though I have been using self select reading glasses for over 10 years now.

So eye test earlier this year, and now I need distance glasses, which I now have to wear when driving. No problem, they only cost me £50

The optician also decided I better have a pair of proper reading glasses. well they are a disaster, and only get used once in a blue moon for something really really small, as they are useless for anything more than 18" away like a PC screen.  So I now have a new pair of self select readers as work glasses.

But what is it with "fashion" when it comes to glasses? Most of the pairs on the opticians rack follow the current fashion for having really wide arms. What's that all about?  I tried a pair on and they totally kill the peripheral vision from the sides, like being blinkered. Definitely NOT what you want for driving.  So I chose one of the few that have convention arms above your line of sight.

am I the only one now that shuns fashion for functionality?
