If the job is local to you keep an eye on it to see how  your competitor did it, so you know for future in both pricing and workmanship. I lost a very big job once, an army barracks housing block. The job was 100% specified  down to the type of screws and involved fitting about 150 pir bulkhead lights with low energy lamps .  The winning contractors threw in 500w halogen floods (over the front doors) and wired in Tw& e with the odd bit of plastic conduit.

We were then called in to rip it all out and redo as the spec in Micc and the correct lights. All the stuff removed had to be kept as it was being given back to the installers, who were not being paid.

Similar I priced for outside amenity lighting on 3 blocks for housing association, to be done in MI, I allowed P clips and Brass Pan Head screws.

Never got the job so went to have a look a few weeks later, they had used MI but with half round pvc clips.

About 6 months later i drove past and half of it was hanging off the walls, looked a right mess, and thought some idiot sat in an office may have wondered why my price was higher, well have a look now.

So basically then, no certs, no receipt, no warranty, no tax, so basically an "illegal transaction".

Don't stress over it, you were trying to do it legitimately, the guy in the pub is doing it for beer money.

Yeah not bothered to be fair. Allways done there work for last 6 years and they allways want me to go fix others mistakes at there 4 properties so will only cost them more in the long run.

people in the Cotswolds can be very picky on their houses appearance, is there no way you can wire on the inside to keep the "old village" look
