Part P Electricans - valuable or dangerous?

Another thing that realy winds me up is landlords, might be a bit off topic, but i went to price for a re-wire today, im still in the process of getting re registered so i would have to inform lbc, i priced it up fair and not over the top and the landlord came straight bak to me and said i can get it done all in for

I've heard of some bathroom and kitchen "specialists" for whom Part P may as well not exist, just don't bother. Bathroom refurbs are not notified. No one polices it so what is the point of it all, just us mugs doing the form filling , re-calibrating our testers religiously,

my mate got a call today to look at fitting a socket for a cooker in a new kitchen,

kitchen fitter wouldnt do it,,,,not qualified

The lads who priced it are tilers.Know the feeling ! We used to do the electrics for landlord, constantly buying properties and doing up for renting out. Until, that is, he found that the plasterers would do it cheaper than us. Never used us again.

I think that trades should go the way they are in Australia (but maybe calmed down a bit).

There you have to get a PRO in to do just about everything; the way I think Part P should be set up here is that you should allow DIY Bob and his family to replace accesories and that's it! Any additions/alterations, they should have to get a registered person in.BlushingBlushing

Oh, and the Government should get behind it with proper advertising.

If you a fully qualified time served electrician and keep yourself up to date you should be issued with a card or somthing and that entitles you to work on electrics

There isn't part p but there is domestic installers, so was wondering about courses....

Lack of publicity combined with lack of enforcemant: we need more rogue trader programmes about electrics to improve things, and a better reporting system (like one at all). But I also feel no one should trade without meeting a minimum standard first.
