Pir Problem

Hi I have a security light at the side door of my house. It is an outdoor PIR Light. The control box is Model 10-110 A1171 F6 if that means anything to you.

This has stopped working properly. It no longer comes on on its own when someone comes to the side door in the dark and flashes on once and then goes off again when I turn it on at the wall switch.

I have checked connections in wall switch.

I have checked the bulb

I have checked the wiring in the lamp going to the bulb.

The PIR control box appears to be sealed so I cant get into it but the wiring does not appear to be loose.

Grateful if anyone can advise how to repair this.

I dont want to have to buy a new one as the wiring from the lamp to the PIR runs under my fascia board and will be difficult to remove unless I have to.

Nope. A picture would be better, as a new member you can't post pictures but someone may be along to assist with this if you can get a snap.

TBH it does sound like the PIR needs replacing although I'm not sure why you would need to replace the wiring as well.

Even with the worlds smallest pictures it does appear that they are pictures of a standalone PIR and a bulkhead fitting with the cover missing and the guts hanging out. The bulkhead could do with tidying up/replacing and I don't see why you won't be able to just replace the PIR.

Maybe this isn't a job for you though? Shouldn't be any major rewiring needed though assuming it was actually installed correctly in the first place.

This happens to PIR's and is normally caused by water ingression or UV damage, the only option it the replace the light fixture. However consult a professional electrician.

Thanks - I had another look at this today - managed to get the PIR to respond correctly in the 4 second test mode however not in any other - I will get new PIR sensor tomorrow
