please see reply i sent to steptoes post. It is because of the two houses next to each other that i was surprised one was but the other seems not to be.

old green earth to plumbing is all i have found so far.

sorry if i have not explained this properly i am not stupid but perhaps at times a bit irrational, when i go back i will put me sensible head on. Thanks for your advice thus far P.S i always remove earth from c. u. when testing Ze. Parrallel paths are misleading.
;)

eh!.. carfull... you do know, that you have to Book out the "Sensible Head" from admin!!

I think the forums only got one "sensible head" that we all have to share!

when I last tried... it was fully booked for the next two & half weeks:O:(

Better get some forum funding to buy another sensible head! :^O :^O:^O

as a matter of interest these are small town terraced houses from about 1910
ah! well thats a little less unusual then...

cuz during that timescale it is possible one property supply has been changed for some reason or another..

1910ish .. 2008 90+years??? :O:|

good luck with your investigations m8! :) ;)

Thanks S/L i am not there again this week but i will ring the supplier when i know who they are,and ask what the designated system for these two propertys are. If it turns out that they have supplied an earth to this property in question in the past then they can maintain it (at there expense then) ]:) .

Will let you know the outcome soon

good luck with your investigations m8! :) ;)
oh dear me i think this reply may muddled up in your post.

 ? :|

see! I told you.. welshy only has the ONE sensible head to lend out! :^O

but he also has some imitations..

that he deliberately gives out just to make us mere mortals look a prat! :(

Don't borrow the one with the "Magnum PI moustache", or the one with the bald head.

I think the proper one has the goatee beard and "Elton John glasses"! ;)

Unless Slipshod or KME have been swapping the disguises around again. :( ]:) ] :) ;) :^O :^O:^O:^O

Infact... I think I heard Theory telling Ext15 that Steptoe borrowed the sensible head.. to put on Hercules..

Try and give the ole nag a bit of brains ..

so he could try and win the Derby!!! ] :) :)

well thats what I heard anyway... but I may be wrong? :| :p ? :|

I don't encounter many TT's, but I'm surprised you've got one next to a PME.. :|
My road is a real mix.

All 97 properties are semi detatched properties & supplies vary PME TNS & TNC-s .

Could be concentric old cable on insulators under soffit has been joined to newer cable which enters house.first house is proper pme seen the same sticker 100,s of times and head is right for it.

only earth i can find is to cold water main. I will do ze when i go back there and see what i get.

as a matter of interest these are small town terraced houses from about 1910
OLD CABLE UNDER SOFFIT

is it overhead?

deffo wont/shouldnt be PME then.

you cant have a PME overhead/overground.!

its in case the N goes down, then everything goes phase potential!!!

Steptoe, could you please explain further?

Are you saying a PME supply can never be air born?

I hope he is, `cos then I`ve got me own back from t`other night.

They do, and they will! I`ve had two jobs that were converted from o/head TT to o/head PME. The little man just came and installed an earth terminal on the service head; did a test and stuck a happy sticker on it.

correct DON,

it is very poor practice, and in my opinion unsafe.

Im not sure about various DNO positions on this, but if I had a PME overground I would be bouncing mad.

think of the consequences if the N gets broke?!!!!

doesnt bear thinking about to be honest.

I know it can also happen underground, tho the likelihood is much much smaller.

AFAIK its not permitted, tho this could have changed in recent times.

Would you say air born of 5 metres is not good?

(The supply is mounted 3 metres on a gable wall, supply 3 properties)

PME installation is cleared labeled on the wall.

OK guys,

breaking news,

it IS now ok to provide PME overhead,

BUT,

only in certain circumstances, and if a specific type of cable is used.

which I would doubt if its an old house with simply a new incomer joined to the old cables.

I just wouldnt want it in my house. maybe Im just an old sourpuss.

I got it wrong, I can admit that, :_|

still dont think the OP house would be compliant tho.

Well those are some pretty deep links m8!

I shall have to re-read them when sober!

Job Title "Earthing Specialist"?? eh?

Version 1 Prepared by "Tony Haggis"?? that can't be his real surname? :^O

No wonder they got "Nigel Johnson" to prepare version 2! :|

Anyway... interesting stuff there Step's

did someone leave some old journals on your cart?

or do you actual seek this stuff out? ;) ?:|

Ive actually got another one(loads more!) somewhere, but at the mo my pc is full of rubbish links i was searching while doing my roof.

something about how far the maximum distance from the house the PME has to be spiked.

in practice this is generally just acheived by stripping a bit of the concentric insulation off!

but its still spiked to earth, protective 'M'ultiple earth, multiple spikes along the length of the cable back to the transformer.

I actually have a bit of an interest in earthing arrangements SL,

something to do with being able to explain to clients why this special CLEAN earth they have heard about and want is really a bad idea.

is anyone here into ham radio, got a scary one for you if you want it!!!!!
