if your doing a PIR, you should be I&T to 7671, not your point of view. The issue is from my point of view you should allways have an earthed connection on any metalic socket or switch.
I'm not trying to cinvince anybody by what i told them. There is. cowboys convince customers to have unnecessary work done.
I was on about the mention of dragging in an earth wire through the whole system, I never questioned the flylead from accessory to box.I'm not trying to cinvince anybody by what i told them. And as it has been pointed by SpinLondon i was right to question it.
You may well say that Steptoe, but recently we had an EARTH bonding modification on about 200 cabins that came in that required us to fit 10 2"x2" aluminium plates on the inside of the cabin then fly lead all cabinets, lockers and acu frames to the in side.or the earthing conductor in a house became detached........
do you see where Im coming from.?
if it is earthed its earthed,
where would you stop,?
maybe we should have a fly lead to the metal window frames, and drill a hole in the sink for a lug too, oh, and lets lug all the radiators too,
but what about the metal door handles.?
:Salute I had the same discussion here years ago with steps about this"543.2.7 Where the protective conductor is formed by conduit, trunking, ducting or the the metal sheath and/or armour of a cable, the earthing terminal of each accessory shall be connected by a separate protective conductor to an earthing terminal in the associated box or other enclosure."To my mind, this means that a fly lead should be used between the swith/socket front and the back box. Fixed lugs not withstanding.
Bacon,You may well say that Steptoe, but recently we had an EARTH bonding modification on about 200 cabins that came in that required us to fit 10 2"x2" aluminium plates on the inside of the cabin then fly lead all cabinets, lockers and acu frames to the in side.
Then out sides all external doors to the frames,in all there was 10 inside and 10 outside.
The MOD do advocate overkill when it comes to any think electrical.
So that was about 2000 plates,8000 rivets,200 clinch nuts,8000 ring crimps yellow and then the cable about 1000 mtr 6mm trirated.
So basically that's why I was querying the earth cable in the switches.
Thanks
And as for not being a spark is a bit offensive as I've probably fixed, installed and repaired machines you may have not even seen or worked on as well as building c/panels and installed all types of wiring systems,if I read that again then Bacon, you are not a spark then,?
is that correct?
I really wish people would post up their position before questions.
Maybe ive misunderstood your post:|Chris: Take your point, and fully concur. However, I understand a "metalclad" box to be a different animal than a metal back box; and was posting on that proviso mate. Or am I woofing up the garden path here??
Ah! Now we`re on the same train...........Maybe ive misunderstood your post:|I was replying to the ops point that accessories need an earthing tail to the metal back box as per 543.2.7
you were unable to even identify the earthing system, and as yet unless I have missed it somewhere have still failed to inform us of the earthing system so are you really surprised as to why I questioned your competence based on a basic fact of safety. And as for not being a spark is a bit offensive as I've probably fixed, installed and repaired machines you may have not even seen or worked on as well as building c/panels and installed all types of wiring systems,But that doesn't make me any less than you or KME to carry out electrical installations.
And being a member of a scheme make you all the better?
