I'm still a student (don't shoot me please lol)

Me and a friend at college are installing power to a shed for his parents. We've been digging up the garden to lay the SWA cable but just before the shed there is a small line of bricks as a step. We seem to remember being told something about being allowed to run it along side the step which would save us a few hours of digging. Are we allowed to do this?

Yes you can

SWA may be run surface as long as it adequatly supported and unlikely to sustain impact damage that may split the outer sheath.

The armouring protects damage to the inner sheath and insulated conductors but the outer protects the Steel armouring from corrosion ( Steel rusts !)

Provision of a power supply to an external building is notifiable work under Part P building regulations.
