Hi guys I am currently doing a Pre Apprenticeship course in plumbing and electrical, I was just wondering what my chances are of getting taken on as an apprentice when the course is done. I have also been on an electrical installation course for 6 weeks and have work experience with a company

Thank you

Hi Joshua

I can only speak from what I see in the Midlands and unfortunately  its not good news for apprentices to be honest .   I know that guys doing electrical courses at my local college  are not getting places , so from a class of  ( I think )  35  none have got jobs with  or offers  from electrical firms .

At my local wholesalers I don't see any apprentices  other than the odd father/ son combinations.

You could ask at the Scottish JIB about getting places.

Sorry to sound negative , I wish you luck.

Thank you for replying, I am more than ready to get out there I am in contact with the company I was on work experience with and will be attending job fiars and so on hopefully by the time I finish this course there will be places available for an apprentice.

You certainly have the right attitude kiddo and as you obviously realize  , jobs don't come looking for you , you have to look for them .

Stay with us on here and let us know how you get on .....we do have the odd member North of the Border ...the one I'm thinking of is REALLY odd !!! :innocent

I'm doing my best to stand out in a way I have completed my SECTT test also and have references so hoping that helps a bit plus I have a bit more experience than the lads on my course hopefully they look more at experience than age
