I find a lot of RCD's have been wired with the clean switched contacts oriented to the buzzbar presumably through convenience in older CUs made from multi brand items. Usually situated at left, feeding the MCBs to the right. Is it worth correcting these cases so that the feed is above as intended, and the load wired back up underneath to the top MCB buzz?

I am of thee opinion that it doesn`t make any difference. When the RCD is active, the electronics are getting their juice, whichever way. When it trips, it becomes, effectively passive, and doesn`t need power.

I could be wrong, but I don`t think its an issue. Good question though!

Some brands of RCD need to be connected the correct way round or they start to make a buzzing noise and smoke when you press the test button!! (I don't know why??)

After doing this a couple of times I always make sure that I connect them the correct way..

But if it's in and working then whats the problem??

Whichever orientation you use it will work, unlike the old 6" nail that replaced a regular blown fuse :)

Typical man that I am I didn't read the enclosed slip of paper which said it must be connected as per the markings...

I read it after the thing went up in smoke thoughheadbangheadbangheadbangheadbang
